doc... you're saying there wouldn't be verm inside the stones?

the way i imagined it was the sclerotia engulfing the grain and kind of digesting whatever's inside it...

for that reason, i wouldn't do sclerotia with WBS.  does it just start from one central point and push the grains away? or what"?

This was my thinking too. No need to be a dick if I was incorrect. I said it would work and probably not be harmful..but I'd imagine theres verm in the stones. If thats incorrect then you could simply state that, unless you think I make a habit of spreading misinformation?

as a general rule, when considering sclerotia, i'd say don't use vermiculite or even wild bird seed, because those are not food-grade.  the rye berries i get at the store are meant for human consumption, so i'll stick with those.

I just started two 6qt giant WBS PF cakes of ATL7. Will tell you how they turn out. I don't see what all the hubub is about.

As long as you take care in properly cleaning and storing them I would not worry. You should do this with all your food anyway.

Really? You're sure it's fine to eat shards of metal, rocks, and grit?

Having said this, I must ask:

Has ANYONE found anything inside of their stones? (be it vermiculite, WBS, glass, rocks , or whatever the-fuck-ever)

If no ones finding stuff in their stones I can see no reason the above statement should not hold true.

Millet hulls get stuck on the outside, as does a thin layer of verm w/ pf tek.
But I've never found anything inside a stone except smooth nutmeat.

Hey buddy,

I started my first sclerotia grow with a pre-steilised bag.Nothing wrong with it,I think-a nice intro to some of the skills needed. Plus you can practice getting your own grow going while your first bag's colonising.

And by the way,I had to mention, your username is awesome.
Like,proper awesome.

Thanks Ego Questio.
that's Exactly What I'm planning on Doing. I've ordered Two bags of Presterile Substrate. They should be here later this week.
Once I get them started I'll probably Go ahead and Try my own at a few Quart jars of Rye Berries and Coffee. Btw, This is my first Grow.. I'll probably try to fruit some of the Atl#7 so I can give out a few spore prints.. But yeah, it's going to be a fun project.

If only I'd thought of it at the time-I chose EndertheXenocide for my online poker, but never even thought for here.
You,sir, have made a friend today.

Have you read all the Ender series?

Fruiting sclerotia species can be a tricky proposition, but well with it for the challenge.
By the way,if you plan on doing a few grows,I'd look into making a grain LC-makes things a lot easier.
