Have you already purchased it?

If not I suggest you check out the Martha Stewart stationary storage closet. It's pretty much sealed all the way around (with a few small holes but nothing major). You can get it at www.bluelight.com. It's a lot cheaper than the walmart greenhouses, i think.

Yes...alot of us use the Green house that you are talking about.

You only need to put some plasic under it...to keep it from ruining your carpet or hard wood floors.
I have mine on concrete...so no worries.

My friends.

i was wondering also what would be a way to controll the humidity and heat?

is there any things around that can monitor the humidity and heat then turn off the humidifier and heater as needed?

i know there is one someone posted here for heat but not for humidity

thanks

You would set your humidifer up on a timer...and figgure out when to have it turn on and off.

You would have the room at around 74 degrees F....My grow room is always 74 degrees F.
You might need to get a space heater...or an AC unit depending on what time of year it is.

Ive got one,i had a problem keeping humiderty up so i taped a
black bin bag around the base and added a container of water with
2 air bubblers in it.Now its around 80% and temps about 74?f
Theres also a heated propergator in it that adds to heat and humiderty.

i like it i think ill get the bigger one two.

How does a person heat something like this? It seems to me that running a space heater in 95-100% humidity would be a bit of a fire hazard. Heating an entire bedroom to 87 deg F seems a bit much.

You only need it to be 74?f for fruiting and my house is kept at about that heat anyway.so i dont need too much extra heat added.Best to incubate in somthing else thats easyer to keep at 80?f to 84?f

We've been working on building something similar out of painter's tarp, and PVC over in "ethnobotanical garden".

It's in my thread about making a growing kit for salvia.

Anno had a setup similar to that, which was antonius - I think he didn't have very good results with the ambient humidity being thrown off by casings, and a few pans of hydroponic medium (like perlite, but geolite).

He ended up hooking up a cool mist humidifier to it.

Give it a whir, you'll know quickly if you need more humidity.

One thing about these green greenhouses [whatever], is that angled top; I have had several makeshift boxy shelving units that were of almost identical size. . .none worked nearly as well as this thing.
There could be other factors involved, but I'm leaning towards the shape of the top as a big one.

I'm confused. Do you like the on from Walmart or Kmart better? How does the shape of the top affect it?

get the walmart one

the top is a truss shape (angled) so that droplets don't form. Thats a good thing when you're keeping humidity that high, you don't want it to drop onto the mushrooms.

The top of the Walmart version is tapered, while the top of the K-mart version is flat. Suntzu believes the tapered top of the Walmart version is beneficial. I agree.

The Walmart one comes with four shelves, and the Kmart one does not, I think. The Kmart(Martha Stewart)one is more for storing clothes, and Wally's is for growing plants. I don't know how much the Wallymart one costs, but I found mine at

doityourself.com Juliana Grow Rack

$60 with free shipping. Probably cheaper at Walmart, but I couldn't find any at the stores in my town. They are not stealth packaged, "4 Tier Grow Rack" is emblazoned on the box. But it's for starting seedlings in cold weather, so what the hell.

are people innoculating their bulk substrates while they're in the unit, or do you do it elsewhere? would it serve as a decent hood for keeping out contams during the innoculation process? if not, what methods are you using for preparation of the bulk substrate?

A hood is not required for innoculation of bulk, pasteurization allows enzymes to live which essentially protect the substrate during incubation.

would a tray of damp perlite on the bottom suffice for humidity?

at least for cakes, i know perlite can be quite effective.

I think that would be ideal for me...i will look into one of those.

I asked about that a while back.  Someone told me it may be hard to keep the temp where u want it in there and incubation is better off in a more controled place.

I just use a bigger bin to spawn my trays in. Soon will be moving into my grow chamber  I may just hook up a humidifier on a timer.

Thought id bump this with how im keeping mine humid.
The bubbler wasnt enuff so i placed a reptile heat mat under the water catchment area in the bottom so as to recirculate the dripping condensation. This works much better but i do need to pour fresh water onto the heat mat daily(the mat is protected from water by the use of a black bag taped to the base with the mat under it)Now humiderty is fine and stable around 85% as long as i remeber to top it up.

I got the 2 shelf unit at Big Lots for 19.95 US. I've got some oysters fruiting in it as we speak. I humidify with the standard steam humidifier sold by Wallyworld for under 10 dollars. They actually have 2 models under 10 bucks. You have to buy a pretty pricey timer though, because about 10 minutes worth of runtime on the humidifier every 8 hours is all you need. I can walk away from my setup for a month without needing to mist or anything. In fact I never have to mist, just refill the humidifier. I also like the steam type because it adds heat to the setup, since it's all down in a cold basement at about 59 degrees, but it helps trigger the pins. I like it, but the next step was to run with the same idea utilizing 1/2" PVC piping and plastic sheeting sealed with my impulse sealer. I used purloined bread racks, and the piping is a whopping .89 cents for 10 feet. It took 4 10 foot pieces to build the whole thing.
