I think I came down that loss of enthusiasm younger than most, and i'm stuck trying to get it back so i can have fun in my college years, but i'm content with living in a shitty house and making ends meet by doing manual labor. I don't want have desires drive my life until i die. I'm at a crucial point where i can make that decision. Feeling trapped in societies gripssss...

Good work, keep it up. And remember that it will get worse as you along. But eventually you will reach a point where you will feel at peace. Hold in there, usually when your at the worst agony, you are very close to achieving results.

Yea, that's usually when the cycle is about to make it's revolution back to happy mode.

Pages 33-40 in BE HERE NOW all speak to the idea of desire - the non-attachment factor ("Lay not up your treasures where moth and dust doth corrupt..."). Desire is also dealt with on pages 48-53, but this time it is a Hindu take rather than a Buddhist one. Instead of a reality which should be shunned (Buddhism was originally a strictly monastic religion in its Hinayana forms, of which only one school, the Theravadin, still exists).
Desire is the Divine Mother, and She is the entire physical plane of reality. Now, from a psychological point of view, desire is libido, and libido is the total field of psychic energy, not just sexual. To lose desire, psychologically speaking, is also to lose the desire to live (self-preservation) as well as to procreate (preservation of the species), both Root Center motivations. However, it also the is the loss of hope, because hope - a Christian virtue - is a Holy desire. Hope is aimed at the future, whereas in Buddhism the focus is entirely on the present. No desire for future attainment or bestowal of grace. Nirvana means 'blowing out,' as in a candle flame, of the burning of desire. Nirvana means extinction. Freud, borrowing from Schopenhauer, who borrowed from Buddhism, created the Death Wish or what Freud himself called "the Nirvana Principle."
I have found that the type of detachment that characterizes Buddhism, is best employed in one's prayer life. If what I request in petitionary prayer does not come to fruition, I immediately engage as complete a detachment from my desire as I am able, for it was not meant to be. If it were meant to be, it would've been granted. I do not gripe in childish fashion to God - draining and stupid. Acceptance is in order. My 'hope' is that I will have developed this detachment and acceptance, plus the ability to be grateful and joyful when it is time to finally extinguish all of my desires in death. Jesus Himself prayed that "this cup be taken from" Him, but then accepted and said "Thy Will be done," in this type of detachment and embracing of what is.
BTW, there's a new strip club opening up this week-end. Free cocktails til ten, wanna go deal with desire on the front lines with me and Rose? No arousal necessary, just pure awareness of the Eternal Feminine!

Existence is suffering which is caused by the attachment to desire because desire can never be fullfilled. Rather than try to extinguish desire just try to recognise it and not get attached.

ENTER!!
Man we've had our arguments around here in the past but I couldn't agree with you more
I think I may have realized this a bit too early, as I've never had big aspirations or goals - all of my plans ever since childhood have been very humble.
I feel that people find direction in their lives MUCH easier when they stop searching looks like you're on the right track, buddy
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me. In addition: SHPONGLE
