hey, so my work has some one wire cameras. look fairly inexpensive. about 3" long and on a swivel mount. Any ideas if these are any good? I've been thinking of installing a system that points one across my patio (will also get my bdrm window) and one at my front door.
Any idea how much these run, where to find them, and what kinda controller I would need? os-x or xp is fine.

You have a link to a pic of them or a model number or something? One wire? Is that literally just one wire, or one bundle of wires? I don't really know a whole lot about security cameras, but I feel like it would need at least 2 wires, one for video and one for power, unless the power is on board.

I thought power required two wires, a positive and a ground.
The video could be sent over the power wires but its still at least 2.
In automobile wiring one wire is common because the other wire is the chassis of the vehicle.

IDK, I didn't take them down and tear it apart. they are about as round as a chap stick tube and about 1.5x as long as one.
probably a few wires going in, but its not a whole shit ton like some security cameras.

Yea its more than one wire. They are pretty cheap on ebay. I recommend using a linux program called Motion to monitor the camera. It saves every frame that is different from the last frame, but if there is no change the frame is discarded. You can set it up outside and get a video of all the animals walking by without all the waiting in between.

I can't find it now because I'm in a rush and need to leave soon. There are some motion-detector floodlights with a hidden camera inside. You can set them to run during the day if you'd like, and they come with two transmitters that plug into a regular TV's coaxial cable plug.
If I can find them later I'll you. I remember them being as cheap as $75.

if they are how you describe i doubt they'd be ok for my application. I live in an apartment complex so can't really be installing extra lights. the common areas outside are lit anyways so I'm not worried about not being able to see. also not worried if the cameras are visible.
