Amanita rubescens? 1

I took this a couple of years back. At the time I was sure it was Amanita pantherina.. but now I'm not sure, it could be Amanita rubescens instead.
Habitat: Coniferous/deciduous woodland. Is was growing on the side of a sand/dirt path amongst the fall leaves. The side it was growing on had coniferous trees (firs mostly), on the other side of the path were beeches. Amongst the fir trees were some birches as well.
Cap: The diameter of the cap was about 12 cm (4.7 inch).
I know it's not a lot of information, but there is bound to be someone here that can tell what species it is just by the looks of it (or at least with some certainty). Thanks in advance!

That's the thing. I don't know. I shot this a couple of years back and I left it intact. I was hoping someone would recognize the species from the cap & veil alone.

The parietal veil seems to match A. rubescens, but i don't know much about Amanitas.
I'm going to guess that more info is needed to get a confident ID.

Well, I'm pretty confident that this (see image below) is Amanita rubescens, and that's from the same general area. My picture in the OP doesn't look much like it, but then nor do any Amanita pantherina images I find online look like the image in the OP.

Perhaps, this helps. These were growing nearby on a grassy/mossy side-path, also underneath coniferous trees and some birches, very late in the year (late December). I thought maybe they are Amanita gemmata.. but now I'm confused lol

I think that all your IDs are correct (after doing some research). The difference between the first and second just seems to be natural variation.

Look at the striations on that thing! Fantastic!
Is that the actual stipe that is like that, or is that the annulus with an impression of the gills on it?
The second spec you got there is something that I would put in the A.gemmata group for sure.
edit: You got a full size of that shot someplace? I'd like to make it my dekstop background for a while :L)

That's the annulus.

Which one are you referring to? The first one, I assume? I'll look it up for you. What resolution do you use?

Hi guys, guess what? When I was browsing through my photo archive I discovered two things. 1. I have more pictures of the one in the OP. 2. I have a picture of another Amanita that I took 1 minute before the one in the OP, and it looks the same species.
The one from the OP, from a different angle:
The other Amanita:
It must have grown really close by and looks the same species. What's more, I think we can say that the basal bulb is smooth. So that would make it a A. rubescens, right?
