Get some plastic lids, like these (or metal) ;
Find some rubber grommets like these;
Drill hole in the lid, that the rubber grommet will fit in tight & insert grommet in lid.
Trim & roll some polyester filter fabric into a tiny roll just a bit bigger than the hole in the grommet & insert it into the hole (tightly). Polyester fabric (about the same as a filter disk) can be found at most large fabric stores (cheap).
Drill another small hole in the lid & insert a polycarb plug (as I did).
Or, use any small stainless steel screw threaded into the hole. As long as the hole is smaller than the screw, it will self thread right into the plastic lid.
The end result is this:
This lid provides a port to inject into & a gas exchange filter that does not require changing each time. As in ready to use - whenever you want without adding any internal filter material.
You can also use this lid for liquid cultures (Karo tek - et. al.). As it provides for gas exchange & has an injection & withdrawal port - all on the lid.
All parts will withstand PC'ing. Cost (not counting lid) is about 0.25 cents each, if you build it -- yourself.

They are as simple to make as flushing a toilet & almost F/U proof. Once built, they cannot be F/U, unless you intend to. 6T

You can also build a Cadillac lid like this, If you can find the parts?
This one has a hepa grade mini filter on it, plus a 3 way valve ( 1. closed 2. air exchange 3. fluid addition or withdrawal).
The treads on the valve match a syringe. Pic below is a quart jar with a 60 ml (2 oz) syringe attached. 6T

And if you want, you can build a 1 gallon liquid culture jar (include internal stirring rod). 6T

hi....bro
Any chance you have some links for those parts? Or tell us where we can get those locally. I'd like to try making some of those up. Tyvek has been good to me...but to have a permanent lid without having to use some kind of filter disc's is just too fukin cool. I stopped buying filter disc's from a certain Vendor...why support a jerk when I can make them for free.

THIS COMPANY
THESE GROMMETS
There are about 2 dozen online companies that sell them. Just do a "google" search with "rubber grommet" as the search term.
You can also find this type rubber grommet at most local electrical supply stores.

The one gallon liquid culture jar lid was made from 2 brass fittings that you can buy at any hardware store. The stir rod bearing / bushing came from the same company that I linked in this thread. The rod is simple stainless steel - matched to the bearing & pressed in. The filters are medical grade infusion filters, you can find around. Any type high quality small inline air filter will work. If you want a smaller cheaper fool proof liquid culture container. Just use a good quality baby bottle. You can find them everywhere & cheap Glass & polycarb ones, plus screw lid & nipple will withstand PC'ing. Insert polyfill in nipple hole, for gas exchange. Squeeze the nipple shut with 2 fingers to protect the polyfill -- so you can agitate the solution, without soaking the polyfil. You can insert a syringe needle into the nipple & it will reseal when you withdraw it. Toilet flush simple & available at almost all grocery stores & marts. 6T EDIT: You should cover the nipple & top 1/4 of the bottle with alc swabbed (allowed to evap) double coffee filters, as a dust cover - held down with a rubber band. Or, you can add them, then PC the whole thing. The coffee filters will dry almost instantly, when you remove the BB from a hot PC. Doing so simply adds an external layer of protection from contams.

Thanks 6T,i thought you had an iv tube in the jar.Is it hooked to a brass pipe?And are those disks a filter?I can see the polyfil in the top so i could'nt understand why you put two of them?My guess would be it needs that much air for the size.The baby bottle was also nice but im ready for a fully loaded model,bells and whistles.What is hooked to the end of the mixing rod,is it a blender type and how much of the bottom does it cover?
