Colonization time scale.
    #1247574 - 01/25/03 09:44 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

My cat is incubating at 84.5 degrees, germination set in rather quickly 1-2 days. He was wondering if anyone else has had these condition with PF jars pf-tek completly, and how long he should expect it too take to full surface colinization.

I have had those conditions before, but innoc times differ even with in a strain. So it is very difficult to even say anything about how long things should take. Currently I have some PR growing in a ground up rye berry version of the PF tek. 3 days and already 15% growth. Mean while, my whole grain rye berries show little to no growth.

Innoc times????,he said germination set in (grayish coverage of substrate) in 1-2 days, he was asking how long from germination-to-full surface colonization, He is using Strophoria strain from PF.

Yes, and I knew that. I thought I answered his question, but whatever. It is always different. I would say 2-3 weeks.

Why did you use fine/medium verm motaman? The coarser, the faster, IMHO.

In this photo, the needle tip can be seen resting against the inside surface of the jar. Then, when the solution is injected, it will run down the side of glass, giving an even inoculation. It is also important to add, that the vermiculite in this jar photo is very course. This makes the needle more visible for the demo. This type of vermiculite is best avoided.

I prefer the coarser verm for the substrate mix in PF jars. I save the finer verm for the top contam barrier and for use in casing mixes.

And I prefer just the opposite   I love the fine verm's ability to hold water.
