Which amendment to the bill of rights is your favorite?

Mine is definately ONE.

Let's say that George bush said he was going to throw away the bill of rights but he was willing to let us keep one amendment.

Which one would you keep?

Unfortunately, the Constitution is a dead letter and is void where prohibited by law. History has shown that constitutions are at best only a means of slowing the growth of government, but are no safeguard against the designs for power of some men over others.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

If the first nine were removed hopefully each and every state would have the intelligence to implement the ones removed into the state constitution and therefore most of our rights would be maintained (only at the state and local level, though)

2nd amendment is my favorite and is the most important. Without this amendment others can not be defended.

I think I have to disagree with you here. While I might also choose the 2nd, the 1st might be the must important. The others might take time to win back but through the discusion and debate aforded by the first you could still win back the others. I think that the builders also felt that freedom of speach was the most important, and I think they felt that 2 was 2nd most. Change is always possible if free speach is afforded.

I think the 1st is most important.  I believe "the pen is mightier than the sword", and with the 1st, you can win the others back.  :smile:

Well for one the patriot act is pretty good proof that the pen can be mightier, and that can work both ways.
two, in a democracy you could win them back, but right you are that in a monarchy it probably would get your head removed.

Serious question here:

If you oppose the Patriot Act (or some other unconstitutional act), do you think you would be more effective by rallying people together in support of your cause with free speech, or do you think you'd be better off storming into Washington with a few guns blasting? Personally, I think the swordfight can be avoided altogether in this situation.

If you're talking defense from other countries, we have a military that is more than adequate for that job.

PS - I'm NOT against the 2nd amendment, I simply gave my opinion that it wasn't the MOST important amendment.
