Need a Keystroke Recorder
    #1246358 - 01/24/03 02:25 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I have one, but if I set it to auto run, it runs when the computer starts up but there's an icon that shows up on the toolbar besides the clock!  What good is that   The one I have is "Home Key Logger - Free Edition 1.70"

If anyone knows where I can find a good stealth keystroke recorder, please PM me.

Thanks,
Lana

There are hardware keyloggers, but those are pretty expensive and there also are straight key loggers, which only log keystrokes and nothing else. But what you need is something that will monitor the whole computer, I don't know the name of the program, but it doesn't show up in the taskbar and is only accessible if you know the name of the console app.

Back Orifice
Sub Seven
NetBus

blah blah blah

The list of RATs goes on. All have a keylogger built in, and won't show up in the icon tray.

Of course, they are picked up by anti-virus because of naughty people, so that might be a problem.

That sounds just like the WinWhatWhere keystroke logger software ( http://www.winwhatwhere.com/index.htm ) that I ran.... I onced installed the free demo of it (not sure they still offer a free demo or not) of that program and upon instalation I experienced a power spike on the electrical line to my house.... What resulted was amazing to me... the demo program that I got from the main site was slightly corupted- just enough that it thought that it was the FULL VERSION- It was only suposed to run for free for a free days... but it said "FULL VERSION"- I had another friend install the same downloaded file on his computer and it only ran in demo mode...

I remember having the same problem with an icon runing down in the systray as well... Once I read the docs however I did find a way of disabling that icon... there is a way with the program that I used.

I used my program to bust my now ex-wife trying to start an afair on the net.... It really shocked me to see all the things that she did and said about me behind my back... It really changed my life for the better (however brace yourself for anything after you first run one of these).

I just checked out the WinWhatwhere site, and indeed they do still offer the free demo version. (click download from main page). It runs for free for 14 days. (long enough to get passwords anyway)

WinWhatWhere does pretty much everything. It shows all urls, hard drive activity, BOTH SIDES of emails (read and wrote)/chats (what was typed and what was read in chat room)and much more... It's been around much longer than most other keystroke loggers and also has the ability to email it's findings automaticly- thus alowing someone to put (sneek) this software on to a computer that they dont own and monitor whats being done on that computer in question via there private email (just like the goverments do!).

I think that WinWhatWhere is better than the other ones that I tested.

There easy to swap from pc to pc.
+ they don't show up on the toolbar.
My wifes father tried one of the software ones on her little sister and she had it figured out in 2 days.
She still hasn't noticed the on on the back of the pc

The one that I installed had an easy way to remove the icon from the systray. (I dont know why some programs defualt to this stupid setting) Also hitting control/alt/delete dosent showing anything up either while running the program WinWhatWhere (at least I was unable to locate the program this way).

As far as the advantages of moving a hardware keystroke recorder from one to pc to another pc etc...Keep in mind that a software keylogger can be installed more than once, thus ran on an unlimited amount of pcs at one time, where as with a hardware one (I'm asuming) is limited to use on one computer at a time.

Also, programs like WinWhatWhere can be setup to "zap" there reports to one's email... so you dont even have to be near the monitored computer to "spy" on it's use. (do hardware ones email there findings as well?)

I just dont see any advantage that a hardware Keystroke Recorder has over WinWhatWhere (and programs like it). - Now a hardware FIREWALL I can see an advantage over software versions!!

now that sounds pretty cool.
atleast u don't have to be at that pc 2 see whats going on.

I'm not really 2 big on spying on people but theres alot of messed up people online.
If you have kids there a good idea.
As for parental settings they suck and lock out stuff that shouldn't be locked out.

I like how AOL makes parents feel safe with there kid online. To bad there more sick fuks on aol than any other ISP IMHO

Everyone, I want to thank you all for your advice and comments. I used a keystroke recorder on a few computers recently it I will be honest... I found out more than I ever thought I would.

So if you're thinking of using one, be ready for what you might learn.
