Improving my strain
    #12462960 - 04/26/10 11:50 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I have some equipment for advanced mycology I guess, but have yet to try anything but multispore (and a few LC's that were made for me)

I have a Pcu Quila mini mono, (1 qt spawn, 4 inches deep, about 9x9 inches across) and its about to pin. pcu quila is the cube that Alan Rockefeller picked in quila, mexico. the caps never flatten out.

Strong aggressive growth, In both colonization and fruit.

High , Consistent yields , Nothin too meaty and huge, and definitely something known for reliability and tolerance for abuse..

Interested in any recommendations

:mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

If there were such a cube, EVERYBODY here would be talking about it.

Fact is, to get a SUPER STRAIN, you have to play Darwin, and select your largest, fastest growing, most potent fruits for cloning and perhaps further isolation.

It usually takes several grows to get a Super Strain... but it is not nearly as difficult as it may sound.

after reading that i wonder, can the shroomery help me improve pcu quila for my next grows or is it back to MS again. I know next to nothing about more advanced mycology techniques and i feel i have strayed too far from sterile technique also. its time for some mycological rebirth!

sooo whats the plan guys

Pretty much you already have covered it.
Fast colonizer is easy to spot, growing out every single plate to fruiting is the time consuming part which stop a lot of people from doing it. I'm one of those people who unfortunately doesn't have time to fruit out a ton of grows.

okay so i need to pour some agar plates and then isolate rhizomorphic myceluim on them? the reason i want to start heere is because this jar of spawn colonized insanely. its still the only of 4 qt jars done and the myc was just CHUNKY. to get rgs this colonized you would usually need to break it all the way up at already 100% and then let it recolonize. lol.

so i have the sterile blades ( those who provided them, dt and a) and i can get the agar/petri dishes

what do i do though specifically

In my experience cloning doesn't make a huge difference in yields, a little bit but conditions are more important. Multi spore I could pull 4-5 ounces out of my tubs and after getting a good clone I normally get 5-6 ounces but other factors about the environment improved that probably played a bigger role in it. My clone allows me however to get a much nicer pinset and all the shrooms are a pretty uniform size, which creates higher and more consistent potency in my opinion then having some monster shrooms and some small ones.

I love clone's pinsets

Cloning is certainly worth it even though it takes time. I've had one of my clones for almost a year now after you get a good clone if stored properly you can keep it good just about forever. This clone was made by simply cutting an inner piece of a stem out and putting it in an lc, I since changed to grain lc but the cloning tek would be the same.

look in the archives for some pretty sweet isolation teks.

Ah, that explains it.  Typical know-it-all noob.  We get a few thousand just like you register here every year.  They try a few grows, fail miserably and then after a few months or one bad trip, go back to sniffing glue, never to be seen again.

We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends.

Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing.  They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end.  They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection.  These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

One more suggestion is personally when I clone I pick about 5 different fruits on a tray and clone each one. That way if something goes wrong odds are a few will work, but if they all work then you can grow them out and decide to continue to use the best performer.

ah dude do ms for the quila we need keep doing the next generations. so we can get this shit domesticated.

save the cloning and isolating for a different strain.

this one will improve with every generation.

the fruits are all about the same most the time and it pins great no need to do any iso work for it.imo

unless you get a fruit that has certain characteristics that you would want to save.

watch how fast the second flush comes too these flush fast and many times.

if you want to do some cloning without agar here is a simple way.

i still have half of the wild print and a set of your second gen prints and a third generation printing now. i think we need to make a master culture before we breed out the crazy characteristics of this cube

i mean, isnt it quila, mexico that made it that way????

its like natural pe

they should always keep the characteristics through the generations.

just print the best ones for later generations.

i still have the half of the wild print too.i only used a tiny bit on agar to start it.

just make some lc and keep it stored in the fridge if you want to keep these generations.

there not really like pe much stems are to skinny.
