Martial law in Chicago?

Just read this gem from al Reuters:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100426/ap_on_re_us/us_chicago_crime_national_guard:
Quote:
Lawmakers: Military could quell Chicago violence
CHICAGO – Two Illinois lawmakers say violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard must be called in to help.
Chicago Democratic Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford made a public plea to Gov. Pat Quinn on Sunday to deploy troops.
The request comes amid a recent surge in violent crime, including a night last week that saw seven people killed and 18 wounded, mostly by gunfire.
Fritchey says Chicago has had 113 homicide victims this year. He says the police department has done a commendable job, but its resources are stretched thin.
Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis says he appreciates the lawmakers' frustration and willingness to help, but doubts the National Guard is the best answer.
A message left for Quinn wasn't returned Sunday.
I gotta agree with the mayor. There is certainly a problem, but I doubt the military is the solution. Perhaps they should make guns illegal, in Chicago, if they want to reduce the number of gun related crimes. /sarcasm

History has shown that Chicago politicians and government officials have no problem with the use of force against civilians. See: everything regarding Daley and the 1968 DNC.

The Governor has announced today that he would not do this unless the Mayor explicitly asked.
The Mayor won't do this. Richard Daley is a political fixture here. He is way too smart to publicly say he has lost control of the city.
No way he does it.

I'm from Chicago. I grew up there, and lived there for many years. My whole family lives there. Illinois has the worst Government imaginable. It only goes to show you what the liberal facist have to offer us. And liberals sent these criminal to the White House! I cannot believe the shame I feel in our country right now.

Apparently people didn't catch my sarcastic line, "Perhaps they should make guns illegal, in Chicago, if they want to reduce the number of gun related crimes." One of Obama's legacies in Chicago was trashing the 2nd amendment and banning all guns in the city... well, all guns except those owned by criminals. I find it both sad and ironic that only a few years after banning guns, the city now has the highest violent gun related crime rate in the nation, to the point where they are considering martial law. At least they will have good free healthcare, in a few years, to take care of all those gun shot victims.

I'm not terribly knowledgeable on the topic, but what part did Obama have in the banning of handguns in Chicago? I just looked up the law and it seems like it dates back to 1982. Was there a more recent law signed?

Actually, my wording was pretty bad. I gave him credit for something he supported, but wasn't a part of creating. He supported the effort, as early as 1995, when he was running for state senate.

Apparently you've never lived in Detroit. Ours is by far the most corrupt. I couldn't tell you how many felony charges our mayor was charged with. Then again what did the pop. expect when they voted "the first hip-hop mayor" into office?

Yeah chicago is retarded, I was just down there about a month ago and while I was in a bodega I was watching the news and some little girl was shot in killed in the cross fire. Luckily the city I live in has all of chicagos gangs without the luxuries of big city living.

What I find ironic is that obama called the will of the people "misguided" when dealing with the criminals that come here illegally. This as if he has a solution for dealing with crime and bringing about a sense of normalcy. Just look what his leadership has brought to his city, levels of violent crime so high that the national guard has to be brought in, failing schools, high unemployment, and chaos in general. Yeah, I think he's got the answers. Thank god he knows whats best for us all the rest of us that are so misguided. Perhaps he can tax them into submission, or probably just the rest of us as I'm sure there are lots of programs that he can come up with for them, on our dime of course.

I would have to say the fact that guns are illegal in Chicago is probably a big contributor to the whole mess. Since criminals know there the only ones carrying guns other then the cops they pretty much do whatever the fuck they feel like doing because none of the civilians are armed.
Illinois politics blows. So much corruption in Illinois it's not even funny, and our president came from this state, very sad.
