naw, you don't have to heat it till red hot. i just dip the needle in alcohol, and light it. sometimes i do it twice if it doesn't burn long. yes, there's some liquid in the needle, but it won't be hot long enough to transfer up into the syringe. make sure you squirt some out after you sterilize it, it'll cool off the needle.

Don't bother. Just innoculate your jars with the oven tek, don't leave the needle laying around uncovered, and don't touch the needles tip to anything between jars and well that way my friend never gets contams.

problem being that not all organisms die immediately upon exposure to alcohol.
better to burn off the alc. to make sure.
