    #1244967 - 01/24/03 06:35 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I have a Gif file that I want to use as an avtar, but its 200kb and the limit is 100kb. I tried to compress it to Jpeg, but then it wouldnt animate anymore. Any ideas on this one?

You can reduce the DPI, actual resolution of the image, or you can try using less colors than 256.

GIF is already compressed, the only things you can do is make it smaller, or lower the DIP or colors like others said; or, if that doesnt work (to your satisfaction), and you have a GIF editor, you can take out some of the frames. Each frame is a seperate picture so the size can get pretty big. Try taking out every other frame and slowing the animation down 50%.

JPG does not support animation. The only things he can do, as mentioned already is to remove some frames from the animation, reduce the DPI of the image(s), reduce the overall resolution of the image(s) or to use a smaller color pallete when saving the image; less than 256.

No most gif's are not commpressed.

However in response to the original question. Yes you can compress them. however under some conditions you will lose a bit or quality.
PM me your email and i will send you a util that will compress them in dos.
used to use this for all my porn before jpgs came along
