Found a police card on my door

I came home today in Washington to find an Idaho police detectives business card on my door,
I can think of many reasons, none of them pleasant, why they may wish to speak with me - however must I call them back? Simply leaving a card on my door does not invoke any law of any sorts does it? I would prefer to avoid contact at all costs.

No, you don't have to call them back. The police can never make you talk to them.

My guess, they often interview neighbors when a crime has been committed nearby, perhaps they just had questions...

They asked me about a neighbor applying for a police job.
No reason not to call- they know where you live.

I know that they can find me and know where I am but even then I do not need to answer the door or anything, yes?

Correct. But if they have a warrant, they're coming in.
But seriously, this is no big deal. Call from a public phone if you like.

Maybe, but shit like this is CAPABLE of turning into a big deal if the right circumstances arise. Might be wise to clean up things before calling, wouldn't want to pull an Eleusis now.

Just call them. They often do things like this over stupid shit like the neighbor's dog barking, recent breakins, etc.. Usually IME they're just looking for you to dish out some dirt on the neighbors.
I'd call them to find out what the deal is, then speak well of your neighbors and let them know that the cops were asking about them or whatever.

You never HAVE to talk to the popo, in fact... it's highly discouraged
If they're going to arrest you, they're going to arrest you regardless you talk to them or not...
So why bother?

An idaho cop comes to washington? My guess is the op knows a lot more about this than he is telling us. We are looking at a major felony or outstanding warrant. One other thing it could be is child support. They added that to the major stuff at the request of the womens groups.
But leaving a card means they are being open about it so the op may not be the one they are after. If they wanted to arrest him as a fugitive they would not do it that way. It's impossible to give meaningful advice when we are left in the dark. But no it's not illegal not to talk to them.

I would call them so you can figure out what is up. If they ask anything at all, tell them you would like to speak with a lawyer before answering any questions. Its better than wondering if they are going to bust in or if they are out to get you.

same thing happened to me, cop card in my front door
i assume it was because a friend of mine who's a minor got his nose broken by three adults because he didn't have a dollar and i was reported by his dad as someone who might know the names of the adults i never called them and that was that.
once i had a warrant for my arrest because i didn't show up to court for a traffic ticket (i was getting surgery go figure..)
anyway, i was bored at sonic and wrote all over a table with this paint marker and someone told the manager it was me sitting there (i used to work there) so she called the cops and sent them to my house to get me i guess, and two cop cars show up outside my house and start pounding on my door, i just got in the shower and took a long ass hot shower, the whole bathroom was like a sauna, when i got out they were no longer outside and never came back (i turned myself in on the warrant later when i had enough money to pay everything)

I've been there. Most of the time it ain't a big deal. On the other hand, "curiosity killed the cat".
Kind of unrelated story: when I was on probation, which required written permission to leave the state I resided in, I took a weekend motorcycle trip just across the border into another state to a national park. Pretty remote, not a lot of people around, no worries. I stayed at this campground and there were a cohort of mildly obnoxious trashtards there too. I didn't pay them much mind. The next day, I'm on my way out going down the road, and this fucking cop comes barreling after me. "WTF SHIT IS THIS!?" I ponder. Maybe he's not coming for me...ah shit! I thought the game was up, maybe he'd run my plates when I was away from my bike or something and seen I was on probation, out of state, etc. I almost decided not to say a peep to him. But it would've been really awkward. He just wanted to know what those idiots were up to and then thanked me for my time.

Sometimes paranoia can get the best of us, but in this case, it sounds like calling back isn't a big deal. They left a card at your door, so what's up? If they press you on questions about what you may or may not be doing in your home (very unlikely), you can decline to answer.

This looks to be the most sensible response so far. Idaho police are not going to be dealing with neighborhood issues in Washington. They have obviously sought you out for some reason. You probably have a good idea what they want with you.

Just clean a few things up in your life, ask a friend to look after your stash for example, then call 'em.
or call 'em then clean. it may well be nothing for you to worry about, but better to know.

last year my mom called me and said the cops have been calling all week. i refused to call them back. eventually they asked her where i lived. So i called them back, they were just calling to let me know a citizen reported me for speeding a week prior. I just let the officer know that i lend my car to my friends often, and id make sure that it doesn't happen again.
so moral of the story. I was all paranoid for nothing

you should probably call them, i have had that happen and they just wanted to serve me papers. the sooner you call them the more time you have to prepare for anything if you have to.
