This is my new/used flowhood! Not to shabby, for a free flowhood. The only thing I had to do to it, was replace the belt and BAM! I now have a working flowhood.
Please feel free to critique my flowhood, drop suggestions by on how the existing flowhood could be improved, or just talk shit about my flowhood. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated, positive or negative.
Here are the shoots from every side of it!

Check out the old-school/vintage belt-driven fan motor with the brand new green belt! lol

Here it is in action!

The only thing I would do probably is put an actual glass hood on it. It helps protect the laminar flow. You could go to lowes and get them to cut some plexi glass for you to size. Then just silicone it on.

That is an excellent tip fungus. Chalk that one up on my short term goals list with high velocity priority on it! When I achieve this I will show you. Again, I really like this idea fungus.
Thank you for your kind words, zigster! What do you think of this avatar?? This flowhood does not have a speed variating switch, no. It has a nice gentle flow, however.

Heck, if all you have laying around is belt driven motors. I say go for it. Why not get your hands dirty.. Get an idea for the build before you go spending good, scarce, money on brand new parts for a flow hood.
Who wants to take a wild guess where I got this flowhood for free from..
Also I think my flowhood is a girl and I want to give her a name.lol Any suggestions or recommendations on a name for my flowhood. My flowhood is female..

Personally I think the construction looks shotty as hell and the whole thing is entirely off-square. But thats just from a carpentry aspect, if it works it works I guess.
The blower looks obscenely overpowered, but the lighter pic shows the airflow looks about right if not a little slow.
Only one thing left to do... test it out with some agar work.

Is it a girl or a sexy lady
If it's just a girl you could name her "Flow" as this was a big name in the 40's and very oldschool like the flow hood.
Now if it's a sexy lady and from the pictures you know she is..... Scarlett Johansson

Got around to administering the first true test of this flow hood by drawing a LC in front of it and inoculating four separate test jars of it..
Nice thick LC.

The real test for that rig will be agar. I hope the filter is still in good shape. Did you open up the box to see if it had a prefilter inside? Keep us posted.

Wondering, how is the "real test" for rig, be agar, in your opinion? Figured opening and closing a LC in front of would be a true enough test. Waiting to see the results of this test before I jump into the agar.
So far so good. 5 days after inoculation and no visable sign of contaminates.

Figured any bacterial contaminates would have germinated by now, rearing their ugly heads.

So far none in test jars. LC has recovered nicely and has settled to the bottom with new growth around the parimeters. LC looks just as sweet as it did at the time it did right before the mycelium was broken apart and drawn into syringes.

Your face is not a proper gauging device when it comes to the examination of LC's when looking for contaminates. Only way to properly test LC's is drawing them into syringes and inoculating test jars.
90% percent sure that "Ham's Hood" is operational @ this point. A few more days with no contaminations and finally work can begin, with confidence, on this;

Good move on editing that dirty image from you post above. That dirty image had this guy pretty upset.

Pouring a sleeve of dishes would be a good test, but having a blank on hand to test would be better. Even better is a particle counter, but unless you know someone that has one...
Anyhow 2nd pic, those jars are covered in trich. 2 of the pics don't show up...kinda confused. More than likely your hood is fine. You can spray the face of the hood with lysol (don't drench it, just a quick spray) beofre use, and run it for for 15-30 minutes to scrub the air. Shower, blah, blah blah you know all this already why I am rambling
Good luck with the gold oyster!!

By "blank" do you mean syringe that has been unopened? How do you go about testing with a blank?
Jars cover in trich are just an illustrative example of the statement, "bacteria contaminates rearing their ugly heads".
You say 2 of the pics do not show up. See how that would be confusing. Which ones? They appear on my computer. Maybe you could tell me which ones do not show up and I can give them a fix.
