Exactly, we did that kind of stuff all the time in the neuroscience lab to place emphasis on the cells that attention needed to be drawn to. In the case of that NASA image, different colors represent different gaseous elements in different concentrations. There is plenty of scientific basis for making them look all spiffy like that.

Yeah, they measure the density of the particles based off the photo and are able to have a fairly educated guess about what the image would actually look like if they had enough light to photograph it properly, which they don't because it's too far away.

When did I say that? Of course it's not. We can only get an image of it in black and white because that's all the exposure allows for. There isn't enough light reaching the camera's iris to come out with a colorful image from the get-go.

I couldn't agree more that pretty pictures help get funding(we did the same shit in neuroscience). The lay-person sees pretty colors, scientists see a wealth of information about the elements, densities of elements, and states of matter found in that environment.

Alls I'm sayin is it's wrong to just dismiss purdy coloring as a way to obtain funds if you don't know how to interpret that coloring from a scientific standpoint.

the completed composites arent needed for analysis and even those are
further enhanced for the visual appeal, I'm not saying they shouldnt
because the images are quite stunning but the pics are in fact faked
kinda like Ted Turner has taken over NASA
