- 1976: Timothy Leary is released from prison

- 1997: Timothy Leary's ashes are shot into space

Seven grams of Leary's ashes were arranged by his friend at Celestis to be buried in space aboard a rocket carrying the remains of 24 other people including Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek), Gerard O'Neill (space physicist), Krafft Ehricke (rocket scientist), and others. A Pegasus rocket containing their remains was launched on April 21, 1997, and remained in orbit for six years until it burnt up in the atmosphere.

Dr. Leary made an appearance at Cal State Fullerton when I was a student there in '83, or '84. He was lecturing on this new thing that would soon re-shape the world. Computers. That's right. He was telling us we'd soon see the day when you could sit down in your living room and be in touch with people in India, or Europe, or anywhere just like that. And we'd all have these little computers that would just do tons of miraculous stuff. He was a great speaker. Very entertaining. But everyone thought the computer thing was just a little too far fetched. What would you expect from Timothy Leary?

That's really cool, JWM. Leary was a visionary for sure. It makes you wonder which of his predictions for the future we still have yet to see.
