Could the PF Jars Themselves Function as Pressure Cookers?

Forgive me if this seemingly obvious point has already been raised, but I did try a search and came up empty. If I were to give my half-pint jars of substrate the vegetable steamer treatment as shown in the “Let’s Grow Mushrooms!” video, but departed from the instructions by fully tightening the lids and only putting one tiny hole in them--or no holes at all, not that I would try that--would the jars function as little pressure cookers in their own right?

Why would you want to? steam sterilization is fine for the pf tek so why change it?

Because I tried the PF Tek once before, and had a ~50% contamination rate despite following the video to the letter. Admittedly, that was probably due mostly (if not exclusively) to the fact that my spores came from a vendor who turned out to be notoriously shady, but I'd still like to know what the experts think of this idea.

It would be more than likely, that either the lids would pop off or the jars would burst as a whole, when you screw them tightly and put them in a pod, boiling them.
There's a reason, why pressure cookers made from rather thick metal .

Of course--but theoretically, shouldn't it be possible to put just the right sized hole in the lid so that the pressure would rise without anything going pop? The PSI wouldn't be anything close to that of a real pressure cooker, of course (otherwise something *would* break), but it might give you a better sterilization than no pressure at all.

No thats not how it works..
I can my own stocks (yanno, beef, chicken, veggie) and spagetti sauce and such..you need to PC them too. Theres no holes in the lids and they dont explode if you boil them, but they dont get sterilized.
Putting holes will just release pressure..youd need a hole regulated with a weight (how a PC works). But the liquid inside, and so the substrate, would not get up to PC temps.
Plus with no holes or a few holes..you'll come into more problems when your trying to knock them up..and your gonna do something that would be not very sterile.
But PF Tek jars can be steamed..and you dont need a PC..so who cares?a

The answer is no because jars can't hold pressure. If you try to build pressure in a mason jar, it will either slip out under the lid or explode the jar. Use the proper sterilization technique. RR
