Wrong forum.
We grow plants here, not destroy them.

What he said, also... You would need a rather large tree in order to really get anything at all..... and I think they usually do it small amounts at a time so you don't kill the tree as well... Don't kill your tree dude!

I remember FH explaining that's how the sustainable MH growers to it. Unless I am making things up in my head again.

First off, you should leave your Mimosa hostilis plants that you wish to harvest from without water for the longest time possible (without killing the plant), that makes it for higher alkaloidal yield.
Then you should dig the ground around the roots and select the older ones, the thickest ones, these are much stronger than the new ones. Chop them off the main stem and cover with soil, then start to water it again as usual, allow your plant to recover so you can harvest roots each year from a few mother plants.
Allow them to dry under full sun, the bark will start to separate from the inner core, just pound it or cut 20cm long pieces of bark, allow to dry some more under full sun, when it becomes cracker dry its ready for storage.

Hey people (and this is for everybody who posted so far here), lets not go offtopic here, I won't tolerate flaming/trolling/abuse in the Garden, you can go to OTD and be free to say whatever you want there, just not here.

lol, that's a little different than a tree that has to get super big and live for a long time before it's roots are chopped off randomly by the very person that has cared for it for so long... I wasn't saying I'm a hippie, merely using the icon to make a corny joke, I was merely advocating harvesting in a way where you wouldn't kill your tree.... If you take care of your plants, they take care of you...

Don't get me wrong, I love trees... but as far as I'm concerned you can harvest some roots without killing the plant.

Right, but mushrooms are something completely different. You don't kill the fungus by harvesting the mushroom, a fruit-body is just the fungus' reproductive system. So it's more like picking flowers
