Increase Pinhead Wavelength

So I was reading through "The Mushroom Cultivator" and came across some interesting information
Quote:
the photosensitivity of Psilocybe cubensis can be found in a mas- ter's thesis by E.R. Badham (1 979). His work reinforces the conclusions of other researchers work- ing with the Basidiomycetes: more pinheads are initiated upon exposure to blue and ultra-violet light with distinct peaks at 370, 440 and 460 nanometers. Badham showed that light stimulation at these wavelengths for as little as half a millisecond per day caused primordia to form.
So could I increase yields by creating more pinheads... by shooting it with some uv light (at those wavelengths) once or twice a day?

A 6500K florescent bulb on a 12/12 schedule is more then enough perfect.
I would not start using UV lights on my tubs/cakes
Blue spectrum lights like day lights already are at 470 nm

I agree. I use a 6500k bulb myself... that research only used it for half millisecond and it increased pinheads... so I would get a uv light in one of those lengths and "flash" the tubs once or twice a day, experiment around with it.

What bulb are you planning to get?

UV light can cause cancer and can damage the myc.

I haven't looked into it that far yet haha... I was just reading and curious of what people thought. Obviously, the bulb would have to be in that wavelength and I haven't done too much to search out who makes one but either way, if I did have one, I might give it a try...
And Shea, I'm just curious because of the study and the results it showed.

i was reading on some website, that the japanese had ancient rumors about mushrooms and stuff, one of them was that the mushrooms fruited more intensely when the mycelium was jolted by 10,000 volts for a 10th of second...

Hey man seen this topic around a bit but and pretty much across the board experienced cultivators get wall-to-wall with 6500K CFL.
That said you might be interested in this thread i started on LEDs to get exact spectral peaks. I got paid again today so about to buy some, keep an eye on that tread in the coming months for some grows with each separate LED as well as combined mixes of different colours and CFL/LED.
I have decided just to go with blue&whites and not bother with the UV stuff tho....
