caffiene is fine.
my grandparents drank 3 cups of coffee every morning until they died in their 90's.

shit, I don't know.
OP should be skeptical of instant coffee due to appleorange's inexperience with its potential detrimental effects on long term health in the elderly.

Most instant coffee has virtually no caffeine in it. At least far, far less than ordinary coffee.
But according to my health and wellness college textbook (as well as my college psychology textbook), daily use of caffeine can raise cortisol levels, making heart problems more likely.

High levels of Cortisol are related to stress i believe.
I believe moderate coffee and tea is fine, i find it benefits my life tremendously and causes me very little side effects unless i abuse it.

Yes, cortisol is a stress hormone. Caffeine also causes its release.
Caffeine also increases vascular resistance, causing an increase in blood pressure.
Quote:
Caffeine decreased heart rate and increased systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, plasma cortisol levels, and serum cholesterol levels. Caffeine effects were additive with those of exams, and together they increased the number of Ss showing systolic blood pressures in the borderline hypertensive range
Caffeine enhances the physiological response to occupational stress in medical students. Pincomb, Gwendolyn A.; Lovallo, William R.; Passey, Richard B.; Brackett, Daniel J.; Wilson, M. F. Health Psychology. Vol 6(2),1987, 101-112. doi: 10.1037/0278-6133.6.2.101

I wouldn't be able to get through the day without my coffee or tea. I hate waking up.
I'll risk cardiovascular damage for happiness.

Ditto - the otherday i left the house for brunch at a friends without having coffee before i left. On the way, I was crabby, "out of it" and my driving felt as if slightly impaired. <--- this circumstance really allowed me to notice the huge impact coffee/tea have over me.
Working grave yards, a thermos of green tea half way through my shift allows me to keep up my energy level and a smile on my face.
+1 for coffee because it keeps you regular.

I used to drink fuck loads of caffeine in a day. I quit using caffeine though due to it amplifying my normal anxiousness.

You're experiencing withdrawls, just like with coke or heroin.
Fatigue, headache, apathy, nausea, muscle pain and even mild insomnia are common symptoms.
try going two whole weeks, break the cycle, and then tell us how you feel.

There are few (if any) studies suggesting ANY changes in morbidity and mortality as a result of chronic caffeine consumption. In fact, most studies suggest that it has beneficial (or protective) effects against cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and alzheimers. There is also evidence that it is a performance enhancer and can increase physical and cognitive performance.
There are some acute, physiological effects, but tolerance develops to many of them and they haven't been shown to be of clinical significance.
As others have identified, the only adverse event that you'll experience is caffeine withdrawal, or caffeine dependence.

^^This.
There is a bell curve demonstrating lower heart disease in people who consume moderate amounts of caffeine. I want to say the low point of the curve was in the 300-400mg/day range. A cup of coffee usually has around 100mg.
Personally, caffeine enhances my life quite a bit. You do have to get the doses and timing right to avoid crashes though. I like 200mg caffeine pills. I usually take two in the morning, then one more in the early afternoon. Coffee bothers my stomach, makes me thirsty, and for some reason comes with more of a crash.
Taking 250mg of sensoril ashwagandha at night is supposed to help lower cortisol.
