Cultivating Questions ::
    #1238153 - 01/21/03 10:05 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I had a few questions & any answers would be MUCH appreciated!

1. When you flush the cake, do you just grab the mushroom right off? or do you cut them off?

2. what is dunking? and should it be done?

3. the water used to do the cake-mix, does it need to be a specific type of water?

thanks!

1. you grab the mushroom at the base....pull and twist at the same time.

2. You stick a cake in water for 12 hours...can be done after you birth the cake...and then after each flush.

3. Depends...you do if you have poor quality tap water.
I use Purified water that comes in gallon containers from the grocery store...cause the water quality is crappy in Seattle.

PF Tek saves you some cash, and you learn more along the way, the Myco Bag method has a little more nutritious value and its pre-sterilized,
you figure out which is best for you.
Perlite is not a method, it's a soil additive, and is mainly used for the humidification of PF Cakes.
Good Luck

is the myco-bag tek a low maintenance tek [like the perlite for caking] ??? is there anyway to fruit your mushrooms in a mycobag instead of putting it into a container?

is there a good site/place that thoroughly explains the myco-bag tek?

thanks!

they come with substrate [& pre-sterilized].

is there anyway to get them [cheaper] & you sterilize & pack your own substrate  yourself?

maybe a cheaper type of bag,  besides myco ?

thanks

Check some of the Vendors sites...they have empty myco bags that you can fill yourself.
Some have filters on the bag....some have filters and an injection port.

good luck!

can you sterilize the bags in boiling water?

do you need to? since you'll be opening it to put in your substrate mix. ??

Depends what your substrate is.
BRF in boiling water.
Rye or birdseed would need to be pressure cooked.

I'll be using BRF......

I would really like to just throw all the materials away after I'm done, so bags would work nicely!

Are there any other cheap alternatives to the Myco bags? Since those are quite expensive.

If I'll be using BRF, how exactly would the process be different for sterilizing using bags?

^that's what I meant by "opening up" = opening up bag, to put substrate in, and readying for sterilization.

Thanks for all the help!

I don?t get it...why are you so eager to use bags?
Why don?t you just get a dozen of jars and use them?

i'd prefer not to keep jars laying around.  As I'm planning on just cultivating once in awhile.

My place is cluttered, and any empty space is GOOD
