looking for a tent for hiking/mountineering in woods/mountians wva

im in the market for a 4 season tent. I normally go for military gear because I think its more sturdy. Most of the time I just take a good sturdy Gerber knife. But i like to camp with a tent and bag too. so im looking for one I can camp in winter too im currently looking at these tents

3 season tents are about all u need, look into north face or mountain hardware tents, also sierra designs has some good affordable tents
i found a 200$ tent at a pawn shop and all they wanted was 40$ probably the best deal on a tent ever, look on craigslist i,ve seen people give great deals on outdoor gear...

I'd generally avoid Eureka tents... I dunno maybe they've gotten better or maybe their expensive tents are higher quality, but I've not had great experiences with them.

And yeah unless you are camping in the alps and shit  or somewhere with lots of snow you probably have no need for a 4 season mountaineering tent. Not to mention they are usually heavy as fuck. A good 3 season should suit you just fine in the mountains of WV.

Some good brands to look for: Big Agnes, Sierra Designs, Mountain Hardware, MSR, Black Diamond, North Face
If you are looking for expensive top of the line, check out a Marmot or Bibler

I am very happy with both my Marmot and sierra designs.

If i was to a buy a new tent, i wouldn't hesitate to go with Marmot again, they have excellent warranty/customer service.

Yeah Marmot makes some super quality gear.
Only tents I would think are much better are Biblers.. but I can't justify to myself spending $600+ on a tent

For reference, this is the tent i use: http://www.trailspace.com/gear/marmot/eos-1p/

I LOVE the 1 pole design - it is super easy to set up and take down by yourself. I broke the pole by lifting my tent with stuff in it and moving it at a festival - and they warrantied it no problem. However - the fly doesn't stretch down low enough to be very 4 season worthy. That said - i cycled with it for 4 months in south america and definitely spent snowy freezing nights in the Andes in it with a -13 sleeping bag and 3/4 length sleeping pad.

I wouldn't be buying military stuff for myself - i fully believe that most of the top quality backpacking stuff will last you a good 10-15 years (and by that time it'll be majorly outdated anyways.)

I would be more concerned with ease of set up, weight to space ratio, and a functional vestibule. I also like having 2 doors on my bigger tent..

That military bag looks like WAY overkill.

Stick with the companies with a good recommendation listed earlier, find last years gear for super cheap online and check the ratings at trailspace.com
