Fast Colonizer -> Slow Fruiter?
    #12402944 - 04/16/10 10:21 AM (14 years, 4 days ago)

So I recently added 7 cakes, to one FC.

Out of 2 syringes, there is 1 cake from it's own, and then 6 cakes from the second syringe.

The first group, colonized very slowly (21+ days) but is now (obviously) moving along quickly.

The second group, colonized extremely fast (16-18 days) but is pinning very, very slowly any reason this might happen?

Sorry about the pictures I was kinda focused on my big guy :P

Here is 2 days ago.

And yesterday morning.

and then just moments ago.

Maybe i'm just worrying about nothing right?

It's just weird to me that the slow colonizer would move along so much faster.

Any ideas/comments/criticism welcome ^^

Genetics.

Colonization time and fruiting time have nothing to do with eachother. Its like saying because you have blue eyes you should have blond hair.

Also that fast colonizer still needs to digest the nutrients in the cake in order to produce mushrooms.

Using ms for your grow is always going to give you a variance in the end product.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Did you give the myc some time to consolidate its hold on the substrate (7 days after full colonization)?

Different sub-strains are different. When you were in school their were probably 13 year olds that sounded 5 and 13 years old that sound 18, right.
Same thing applies to plants, fungus, animal, everything.

Some genes are linked though. Like the shape and colour of peas. I think hair and eye color are. I'm not sure though. Thats not to say that if you have blue eyes, you must be blond, but the majority are.

And usually people with dark skin have dark hair and dark eyes, because of increased melanin, that doesnt mean the genes are linked. Well of course all genes are linked..but that doesnt mean when you have one you have to have the other.

If you changed the color of peas, the shape would change too? So white peas would be square or something? Linked and corresponding are two different things.

I guess what I needed to understand is there is no 'base' for what is going to happen ever lol,

Even if 2 people had blue eyes, and blonde hair -> there's NO gaurantee they will look alike, be the same height, grow the same at different stages etc...

It all really makes much more sense

And yes, I gave my jars time to consolidate, atleast 5 days no more than 7 though.

Once again, thanks everyone for the help.

I think everything in the world is much easier to understand when thrown into random analogies lol

Happy growing!
