That's how it was invented, dontchaknow.
In elementary school we always dipped our regular chips in ketchup. They just don't make them pre-packaged ketchup flavored in the US because we aren't fucking weirdos.
I do love me some poutine though.

From wikipedia:
Quote:
Back bacon is bacon prepared from centre-cut boneless pork loin. The name refers to the cut of meat, which is from the back, and distinguishes it from other bacon made from pork belly or other cuts. Like other bacon, back bacon is brined, cured, boiled, or smoked. It is much leaner than streaky bacon, and is sometimes sold in the US as Irish bacon or Canadian bacon, owing to the popularity of back bacon in those countries. "Canadian Bacon" can also mean a round, sliced and usually smoked ham product sold in many parts of the United States.[1] In some parts of Canada, back bacon is prepared and sold as peameal bacon. The name reflects the historic practice of rolling the bacon in ground dried yellow peas. Today, however, it is almost always rolled in yellow cornmeal.

I'm guessing the closer north you get, the more likely you are to see ketchup chips, to cater to traveling canucks. I've seen them a few times in stores in NY. Never ever seen them south of the mason dixon line or in the west.

Hahah. Poutine is good, but it's something you should only have like once a year. Fucking fattening as all hell!
Ketchup chips are good because they're sour, like salt & vinegar. I can't remember the last time I bought ketchup chips.. I seriously had NO idea they were a Canadian thing.

Definitely false. Go into any chip section of any grocery store or gas station and there are at least 500 different flavors of chips. Ketchup is just not one you'll see very often/at all.

Potato based products and how they relate to my personal condiment choice:
Tater Chips: Very rarely French fries: All the time Mashed Potatoes: Never (know folks who do) Scalloped Potatoes: Depends if the "need it" or not Baked Potatoes: Never
I do like ketchup flavored chips, though; I think they sell them here in Germany.

I live in MN, and we don't have ketchup chips, or poutine.
Horribly unfortunate. However the only chip I need is salt & vinegar, nothing else can compare for me. But the only place I eat poutine is at work like once a month because I get stoned and decide it would be delicious. And it is, every time.

But I concur, normal bacon is the shit. I'd probably be totally vegetarian if it wasn't for delicious bacon. And fish.

When I moved from Canada to the states, I was shocked that there was no ketchup, all dressed, dill pickle and hardly any salt and vinegar chips. At least now they have the last two.

Now where the fuck to find cheese curds and that kind of gravy. Gravy shouldn't be hard in fat ass america, but where the fuck do you get cheese curds?
i always get my cheese curds from the tillamook cheese factory when i'm on the oregon coast. They are known as the squeeky cheese, cause it squeeks when you eat it fresh. I've never seen cheese curds in the stores.

I think it's regional too. You'll hardly ever find pickle chips here in the midwest but salt and vinegar is in every store.
BTW are you still going to the festival this weekend?

Most of the time. Or mayonnaise and barbecue sauce.
Just seems weird on a chip :P Never tried it though.
