obama cut the Aris or whatever its called rock program, wasnt really that craetive anyway. we need a new shuttle type something, maybe work with private companies to design something epic. we need to start doing things right and stop sucking.

people need to stop thinking about the moon, or other planets.
planets have huge gravity wells and are expensive to land on and get off (climb out of) again.
Asteroids people! specifically Near Earth Objects.
they take virtually no energy to land on or take off from, and alot have a hell of a lot more useful alloys and even chemicals that could form the basis of organic compounds than the moon does.
automated mining plants could start sending back huge lumps of asteroid mined mineals and organic matter before we even need to put another person in orbit.
although realistically unless our robotics technology gets a hell of alot better at least a few people will need to go up there to set it all up.
NEO's also offer the best option for the first space colonies as resources could be sent and traded between them at virtually no cost.

we just need to create some replicators and put them on the moon, i hear the moon has some components to make fuel last i heard anyway. If we just create a robot that can run off moon dust that would be a huge step, or if that fails, solar power would be another route. We wouldn't have to send the power back to earth, if all we managed to do was harvest and store it on the moon that would be good enough for a reason for a moon base.
I think the biggest challenge however, is that space ships require a fuel and not electricity for movement right? I guess thats where hydrogen could come into play, use the electricity on the moon to seperate the hydro from the water, they did find water recently on the moon right?

I don't know if I like spending so much money on the space program. Let's make sure everyone on earth is taken care of before we dump so much money into finding out whether or not there was once water on Mars.

Regardless, NASA spending money while people are starving is no worse then us buying internet while people are starving. Its really a logical fallacy to assume that if we dont spend this money on NASA somehow it will 'take care of people'. It wont. So we might as well spend it on NASA.
