how much does lighting spectrum affect pinning
    #1238666 - 01/22/03 07:01 AM (14 years, 9 months ago)

How does kelvin translate to nanometers when speaking of flourescent lights?  I have a 6400K light and it is suppose to be closer to the blue spectrum.  I read TMC which details experiments that determined that fruiting is achieved best with lights in the lower blue spectrum, less than 510 nm I believe.  Anyway, I never understood why this is never mentioned here so I'm bringing it up.  Everyone says that light doesn't matter.  Members say as long as there is a light of some kind, the mushrooms will come.  "They just need to know which way is up, " is usually the answer.  I gave my light to a friend, because I have since decided against hydroponics  :frown: .  He used it to fruit a tray of panama and to our total shock there were large pins in two days!  The largest seems to be a centimeter in length.  The tray is a cow manure/compost mixture and it isn't cased.  This is not by any means any kind of proof of anything, it could be that panamas fruit fast, perhaps not casing the compost helps, too.  I think the major changer to the setup, however, is the new light.  It just got me to thinking about the TMC and how that part seems to be ignored, but everything else is doctrine.  Please share your thoughts

Kelvin is a measurement for temperature. 273K=0C 0K is absolute zero.

yeah I know about the kelvin scale, but I was wondering how it translates into lighting. I don't think that the 6400K is a description of the lights temperature, not in the obvious sense anyway. It probably has to do with the wavelength of the light as certain temps or something.... that's what I am more interested in.
