How do I go about getting poo in the winter
    #1238282 - 01/22/03 03:06 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Its -31c here with windchill today! eep

How does one get poo in the winter. Isn't it all frozen? And what would you do, call riding stables and ask if they got any old poo? Rotted stuff?

To get shit in the winter is the same as getting it in the summer. Just head over to your favorite vendor...ex: cow or horse pasture. Normally most farmers will allow you to shuck some patties off of their fields or pastures if you explain to them that you are getting it for your mothers greenhouse or something.

As far as getting rotting shit, don't do it...you want your poo to be around 3 days old...Don't get it while it is still steaming...but don't get a completely dry patty either. You want it to look dark and wet still, but it will be dry to the touch.

But the ground is covered with lots of snow! Can't go cow poo hunting in that. I was just wanting to go to a riding stable and shovel a pile of poo onto the back of the truck.

3 days old thats a bunch of dung

I use old crap maybe 4-5 years old and have kick ass flushes.
* Find a old barn walk inside and see if the floor of the barn is jet black.
If it's is it good to go. I only use barn floor dung and it does gr8t with wheat straw.

Here is some pics of what i look for in barn crap.
barn floor dung
I usually let it dry for a day or so sitting on a screen near a barrel burning full of wood if it's really cold that way it kinda keeps it from freezing.
Usually in the winter the barn floor is frozen but only about 10-12 inches then it seems to be moist. Just beat the shit out of it till you get thru. You can also use the frozen chunks just thaw them out.
After the dung is dry screen it thru a window screen into a bucket so you get all the rocks and beer caps(lol) and bugs out.
I just eyeball my straw when adding it.
