"Firstly Antibiotics such as gentamycin dont actually stop bacterial contaminants but they can limit their prevelance."

It is my understanding that gm prevents growth of certain species. The prevalence of bacteria is limited due to the fact that only certain species can grow in the presence of the drug.

The F+ strain I isolated is an example of a non-rhizomorphic isolate. I think the points Stamets makes regarding the supriority of rhizomorphic growth have to do with the speed of growth as well as the observation that rhizomorphic strains tend to initiate hyphal knots faster and at a higher rate than cottony growth. I do believe there can be exceptions to any observation. I will check out your thread in advanced.

From most of my experience gentamycin only limited the size and arrival of bacterial contamination.
Your right about stamets but he does tend to suggest that rhizomorphic mycelia is required for strong fruiting, despite later explaining that only two in three spore matches are capable of fruiting.

I looked for the thread you posted, would you give me the title or a link?

Here are some pics of a couple of different isolates from this strain colonising white millet.

Here is a pic of an isolate in 8% honey water.

"nice to have something other than cubensis logs once and a while."

I hate to disappoint you. :frown:

The next person to reply gets to choose a name for this strain. The original print came from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

Choose one of the following names please:

St. Thomasian (my pick)
US Virgin Islander
West Indian (The Virgin Islands are also known as the West Indies)

How about Mary Tudor strain to recognize the Virgin queen of England. Or Virgin Queen.

The naming of this strain is not up for debate from my perspective. It has been named.

Please do not post any more posts regarding this issue w/i this thread.

Here are fully colonised quart jars containing white millet. I tried to show how fluffy the myce4lium was on top but the autofocus on my camera focused on the glass. I think you can still see the fluffiness.

I spawned some dung a few days ago and it contamed. I just spawned all three of these jars into Mycota compost w/ nutrient solution. We will see how things go from here.

This log is now real-time.
