Turkey Pan, How Many Jars Needed?

I have a 16"x12"x3"deep Turkey roasting pan. I have 4 pints(BRFV) soon to be colonized with B+. How many of them should I use to case? I plan on casing with 3 in1 and whatever I'm supposed to use.(haven't gotten that far.)if that makes a difference. Sorry if this sound like a bad math question. Suggestions on casing with 3 in1 would also be appreciated. Thanks

That's a big pan for only 4 pints... unless your planning to mix it with horse shit. You would be better to get 4 small loaf pans and case them seperately. 1 pint per pan. At least that way if there are any contams, you wount lose everything.
Good luck

if you can't get manure, at least get some straw .to extend your substrate . 3n1 will work for casing, but its not mush good for anything alse 'cept the lawn a turkey pan is a prety big chunk to bit off, for your first casing . good luck read as much as you can find on bulk substrate and casing .

Really You dont think that is enough for that pan.? I am new at this but I thought I saw a thread earlier that someone use 4 .. 1/2 pint jars for a 9x12..not sure how deep it was. This is why am asking. Because I don't know. Thank you for your input. Remember I am using pints.. not half pints.. But.. Should I go smaller..I dont want to try and give the contams a chance by extra recolonization

Well someone correct me if im wrong, but i thought that after a certain point it wont help you to an overly large casing if you dont have the colonized substrate or an added substrate like horse shit because it will just spread the pins out and stretch the substrate.

Ok, with cakes this is what I've found, if your gonna do casings use rye berrys or poop to mix the cakes. Use a cheese grader for the cakes and mix into the substraite of your choice. With the cheese grader it will colonize very fast cause the substraite has myc all threw it not just in chunks that it has to grow out from. Now cakes alone. I like to do just like a casing, break up the cake into a container with moist verm on the bottom then put moist verm on top. Let them grow together like a casing. Then when you birth them dump them out of the container. That way you will get shrooms from the top and the sides of the cake. I've found with cakes alone I get larger flushes this way.

Well.. i certainly can't correct you because I have alot alot of ignorance in this... But the 3 in 1 that I want to use(Scott's I think it is, I haven't bought yet.. but will). Doesn't it contain some manure. From what I have read it has some cow manure. So..shit now,,.. I'm skeptical about using such a big pan....Any other input would be very much appreciated...And..thanks for the replies so far..

Magash... i respect your input highly..Where would a person like me get rye berries.? . I have recently cased with cakes(BRFV) like you said with verm bottom and top(just put in fruiting chamber today). but I didn't turn over and cake it. But I will do that next time for comparison. Thanks..

About the only thing you might have missed was the statement (This is my first casing) from his post. I have found a 1 pint jar fits nicely in a small loaf pan with a top and bottom verm layer. and it is safer when it comes to contams.
Bandit - Your technically right! The shrooms need the nutrients in the substrate to mature properly. If you spread your substrate layer too thin you will get lots of pins, but only a few will have enough nutrients to fully mature, causing a lot of aborts and only a few nice fruits.

if Shroomologist has his dimensions right, using 1/2 pints, that is less then 2 pints . i think he is gonna have some small shrooms .that 3n1 stuff is just barely a step above jiffymix imo but yeah, if 4 pints is what ya got, go for it .

Use a much smaller pan. Look at the photos above, The blue pans are Glad/tupperware conatiners. Find them at any grocery for $2. Or use the small paint trays from home deopt. They hold a quart or two.
from TMC tons of casing info from THE man http://annonymer.members.easyspace.com/CHAPTER_VIII_THE_CASING_LAYER.htm
http://www.mycotopia.net/teks/hongus.html -casing for dummies. An excellent write up.
