I'm down all the way, especially if you make a crankey soap! I think that would make me less crankey in the morning.

You should try making your own molds out of plaster or something.

I watched Fight Club for the first time in years (hell it was the first time I've seen it high even though I've seen it tons of times) and this topic made me happy.

okay, i think i did my soap recipe wrong. oil is suposed to be heated to 110 degrees b4 adding the lye? its hardening up very slowly on the bottom but the top part is taking for ever. still liquidy

I'm not sure on the temprature needed but it may differ depending on the type of fat/oil being used, I know that the amount of lye used depends on that.

I do know that you have to stir it A LOT for the saponification process to fully happen. My aunt used to make soap for holiday gifts and she used to use one of those hand-held stick blenders to speed the process up.

i tried once and it was a fail...the bottom part hardened up , but the top part stayed liquid. i need some time to perfect my soap making skills before i start stamping. been busy lately but i still plan on trying again. so hang tight

I definitely believe it could be jew-soap.  I went to Auschwitz and they had all sorts of stuff made from human remains

Most common was stuff made from hair, like uniforms, clothing, and rope :puke:

You heat of some kind of fat to a given temperature (different ones yield soaps with different properties) in a pot and add a lye-water solution and stir. The lye (strong alkali) reacts with the fatty acids in the fat molecules, the remaining product being soap. You pour it in a mold and let them sit to harden and then you let them cure for little while so any remaining lye has time to neutralize.

HERE'S a link my aunt gave me a while back outlining the process from A-Z. They got some troubleshooting info that would probably help the OP's second batch come out :awesome: & HERE'S a step-by-step outline of the process with pics.

Hope this helps someone
:peace:
