Any idea why this tub is only fruiting from the seemingly uncolonized (or less colonized) areas of the substrate? This is rye spawned to coir/verm with no casing layer. Thanks!

It fruits where conditions are best, the uncolonized part acts like a casing layer. You might try some wax paper.

Nice clear pictures. Your tub looks like winter wonder land. Not so good for fruiting though. Couldn't tell you why this is happening but it never hurts to recheck your pinning/growing parameters...Some of the more experienced growers could give you a more specific answer I'm sure.

lay it on top of the substrate to hold humidity high at the surface and initiate pinning.

Read that first. When you use wax paper on top of your substrate your supposed to use it from day one and remove it later.
When you do use wax paper remember to crinkle it up in your hands and lay it back out flat before laying it on the substrate surface. ~P~

Looks fine to me. Sometimes coir can look like that with the dark background. However your pins look awful thin and stringy which could be a symptom of improper lighting, fresh air, moisture content(not to be confused with humidity) or just genetics.

yeah, the conditions were far from ideal. very little air exchange, almost no light and wild temperature swings. i've improved them a little bit.
