I'm not sure coir is for me tho.

Why not?

Also I do have a PC so the only advantage of pf tek (no pc required) doesn't apply to me.

The outcome/substrate weight ratio is best with cakes.
It's the fastest way to get your hands on fruits (for spore prints for example), it's easy, rather contam resistant...

There's many reasons why:shrug:

Umm I don't know how to be more clear lol its cow manure, in a plastic bag sold for garden fertilizer, 20 to 30 lb bags it seems.

There's manure that is ready to use and manure pallets, that are dehydrated and pressed.

I have never used "ready to go" manure, but I used pallets. They're also bagged. That's why I asked:wink:

Thanks for the tips, help.

Its not pallets then, its ready to spread, never seen or heard of dehydrated manure for sale, I may have to ask the nursery if they can get it for me though.  Thanks for the info.

picked up 4 bricks of coir today, so that should take care of my 2 17gal tubs, I'll probably go buy one of those bags and use it on a small tub and put it in the fruiting chamber with my cakes.  Reason I wasn't so hot on coir is I read something negative about it, maybe it needs PH adjusting? I'll have to re search it to see what it was specifically.

Thanks for all the help fahkface

Ive had great results using just vermiculite.  I microwave it for 5 minutes add a little tap water and mix with colonized grains.  Never had a contamination with this method and it produces a hefty amount of fruits.

The vermiculite is acting as the bulk substrate like straw or manure.  Check out this link for more info.

Grains alone lack the capacity to hold much moisture.  Vermiculite on the other hand is basically a sponge.  It's also why it's popular in gardens.  It'll help the soil retain more moisture for longer periods.

Thanks everyone who helped.

Just a quick update...

on 4/22 spawned 4 jars to an 18gal monotub, also spawned 2.25 qts (only made 4.25 qts of that strain, 1 qt contamed, 1 quart was superslow, 1 pint used for grain LC) to half another monotub and birthed the 4 pf cakes onto the other side of that tub (perlite on half tub, monotub on other half, 4 cakes on top of perlite obviously)gonna dub that my "halftub"  All bulk was done to coir/verm/coffee/gyps.  Also used the grian LC to knock up about 6 more quarts and about 5 more cakes, so I have my 2nd gen already on its way.

Unfortunately I have to rely on them to take care of themselves (hence why monotubs) as I only get to attend to them about 3 days out of the week.

As of yesterday my full monotub has pins, I was about to leave the house for one of my 3 day absenses and took one last check...  Counted at least 40 pins sparsely spread all over the sub, I didn't take the time for an accurate count as I'm sure as of this morning there are more pins.  Hopefuly on friday I'll have a small harvest when I get back

No action on the cakes/halftub, but it seemed a little dry so I added about a pint of water to the sub of the "halftub" side and about a quart of water to the perlite directly (until it started to leak from the bottom of the tub.)  I sprayed the heck out of both tubs and went away.

Sucks that my pf cakes aren't doing anything, but I think I'll be more than happy with the one monotub and the knowledge gained...

Thanks to all you guys both on this thread who helped and Shroomery in general.
