-=( Tea Time)=- --- Brf cake tea * 3
    #12361289 - 04/09/10 11:04 AM (14 years, 10 days ago)

So iv heard numerous times on these boards about extraction of the actives in spent BRF cakes. Iv always thought of the idea as pretty nasty to be honest, but the curiosity of whether you can actually trip off "cake tea" has consumed me :P
So last night i decided to give it a go since i had 2 spent cakes that just finished there 5th flush and were ready for the trash can anyway.
I boiled up sum water, washed the cakes over some tap water to remove any creepys that made there way on the cakes .. lol
Then i crumbbled up the 2 cakes in a semi large cup and added the hot water.

Heres some pics i took of the crumbled cakes, and then water added while steeping

So i let it steep for about half a hour, and literally all the mycilium dissolved apart until there was just water and verm.
I then strained it with a coffie filter and drank it up.

The tast was 10x better then i thought it would have been! i actually enjoyed it!

Finally, after about 20 min after ingestion, It worked! the trip was a very enlightening body feeling. I felt like i was becoming part of my bed hahaha.

Hahaha thanks for the replies guys. The strain was Brazilian, and yes i actually really liked the taste. (but then again i like the taste of mushrooms to begin with) I did drink it all tooooo.. yummmy :naughty:

As for inspiring people to do this: i hope it does, I thought it was the worst idea on earth before i actually tried it! One thing i should mention tho is to make sure u steep it really well, and strain out all the verm well as-well or that would taste like shit.. lol

Ah damn at least it works.

i've been thinking about this for so long! question: the cake was on its 5th flush?
what if it was a brand new cake that just colonized 100%? would that provide a better "trip?"
hmmm i'll def give this a shot! thanks for being courageous and experimenting!

Its my understanding from what iv read that the more flushes a cake has been through the more potent the mycilium is. Iv heard many claims that mycilium is not very active until it has created a flush and becomes "spent" of course these are just claims iv read and i could be wrong, but it makes scenes since the fruits themselves create the most psilocybin.

Hopefully some1 knowledgeable on the matter can clarify further or correct me if i am indeed wrong.

Thanks for raising a good question

it's been on my mind for a while. seeing posts like "can i eat the brf cakes?" really made me curious.
but what you said makes perfect sense. maybe i can brew some brf tea if i get really desperate
but from all the flushes i'll have and however many fruits i get from my first grow, i probably won't want to attempt this. :puke:

Yeah man that's pretty sick! (in a good way). I wonder if you can let all the water evaporate and make a couple capsules..  This whole process is pretty safe since the vermiculite will actually purify the water, cities have used it to purify polluted water run off on roads. And vermiculite has asbesteos so careful when handeling dry and wear mask, but the asbesteos is not water soluble so you getting pure mycelium Mixed with some water soluble vitamins and other nutrients from the brown rice flower, like folate for example. So it's fine health wise as long as mycelium isnt bad for you.  Nice man. Was the same feeling a dosing cube fruitbodies?

im not too worried about it. im sure this isnt the worst thing ive ever done to my body.

also, my tea looks very different from the tea in the OP. mine is an opaque wheat colored liquid but it definately has a blue/green hue to it. i squeezed my chunks of cake against the side of the bowl i steeped my tea in to make sure i got everything out of the chunks that i could.

edit: it definately tastes like shrooms. the taste doesnt bother me at all but i know that taste anywhere. hopefully thats a good sign.

because tripping is fun? i dont see how its gross.... you get no solid material in the tea, just whatever is sucked out of the mycelium/brf/verm mixture through diffusion.

so..... it works. i would compare this to eating 1-1.5 grams of shrooms. it definately is more of a 'body feel' though. best when i close my eyes and just listen to music in the dark.

its nothing too spectacular though. so i think im just going to go to bed. i would eat some regular old dried mushies to up the feel but i was just interested in seeing how worth the time the brf cake tea was. and i finally had a spent cake

i would do it again if i only had a gram of shrooms and a cake. because then i would probably feel like i ate a half eighth or maybe 2.5 grams.

well, me and two freinds tried this last night after reading this post, we used 10 quarter pint cakes, and two half pint cakes. steeped them, and then poured the liquid through a shirt and into a pitchur, then squeezed the shirt to wring out access liquid. afterwards we had a big turd lookin thing.

while it was steeping we mixed in some lemon juice, had quite the nice flavor and was colored like murkey brown water, but tasted of the earth.

drank it and didnt get to the moon but i did have tracers, and textures were "growing" if you know what i mean.

all in all, not as good as the fruit, but still good if you dont want to just throw them cakes out afterwards.

Kudos for climbing outside of the box!

It's interesting to know that it didn't pick up some weird flavour from the vermiculite.  Wowzers.. and after the 5th flush--talk about efficient use!
