Catholic high school was fun for the parties and hot girls in uniforms.

Although I could be considered to have been raised Catholic, I don't think I ever bought the idea of a judgmental monotheistic God. It really is not only counter-intuitive but irrational.

You just weren't raised hard enough. I was raised fundy baptist and I was sure the hell was real. And all the other nonsense that you can scare an innocent little kid with.

You're lucky, baptists don't speak in tongues, do they?

I was raised in a fundamentalist tongue-speaking church, and that's an experience for sure.
I went to a "jesus camp" just like the movie.

I thank the Lord everyday that I was not raised as a Christian.

This thread reminds me of my best friend in middle school. He was raised by hardcore Christian parents and was taught that masturbating was a sin.
Needless to say, he asked God for forgiveness several times a day when we were growing up.

lol me too, what were your impressions of speaking in tongues as a kid? Now that I think back to it, it seems like it was all about going into an altered state of consciousness, of a similar kind that I would be condemned for seeking through mushrooms.

I was raised in a very hippy Lutheran church. Although I can't identify myself as lutheran anymore, I much enjoyed my time spent there.
If I was raised catholic, or even had a different pastor for that matter, it could easily have been a different story.

I never felt any of it myself so I just passively observed.
I have heard a lot of preachers that seemed extremely sincere in attempting to explain the metaphysical condition of humans within the confines of fundamental christianity, and it must really be hard for them.
