Combining Fungi with other members of Fungi
    #12346214 - 04/07/10 12:02 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I recently read parts of a book on Mycology on Google. It seems the family of Fungi encompasses a thousands of different species. It would seem more then plausible that combining multiple fungi's to grow together would have some benefit.

In fact in nature it must be the case that more then one fungi grows in harmony to help facilitate the mycelium network. I can only strongly hypothesize this from isolating wild specimens and examining not the singular fungi, but others growing beside it.

While they perhaps compete for resources, they must benefit each other on some level, as typically these species which grow outside are exposed to this plethora of fungi.

We have tons of ecologists who profess the importance of this stuff,  too bad they never get it done.

Dozens of species of fungi and bacteria have been isolated from single fruit bodies of wild mushrooms.  It's also not unusual at all for up to a few dozen strains to be found in a single fruit body of cubensis when grown from multispore inoculation.
