Why is my fully mature Allen soooo small???
    #1234606 - 01/20/03 05:46 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hello Everyone,

The first pin in my allen casing has reached full maturity, atleast I think it has! The outer edges of the cap are turning lighter colored, and I can see the gills from underneath, which leads me to believe the veil has already been broken!!

The problem is, how come the mushroom is only like an inch, or inch and half tall?

Peace

Some cubes are smaller than others. My Allens have varied greatly, mainly from a medium size to tiny.

What was the growing conditions of your casing?
Fruiting temp?
Humidity?
Did you fan them?
etc.

What kind of substrate?
What kind of casing material did you use?
Did you keep your casing moist enough?

Need more answers to help you.

I haven't had a problem fruiting the Allen strain.
I got some very nice fruits.

I kept fruiting temperature at around 70-77 degrees F.

Humidity has been steady at around 90 using perlite humidification! and I fan them twice a day, plus I have an air pump with filter attached pumping air in there. There's a whole on the opposite end with one of those green air filters where the air gets pushed out.

What kind of substrate?

I had a layer of vermiculite on bottom, colonized BRF/verm cake in the middle, with vermiculite casing layer!

Yes I believe I kept my casing moist enough, but... how does one know when it is moist enough. I mist it occassionally. Do I want water droplets?

Thanks for the help RoadKill!

around temps don't help much.
keep track of your temp...and try to keep it stable.
I know mine are at 74 degrees F.

you should try and get your humidity up a little during pinning.
then drop the humidity down after you get pins.

your using plain verm as a casing layer...IMHO plain Verm casing layers suck.

How many cakes did you put in the casing?

Plain Verm casing layers are hard to tell if they are moist enough.
That is why I like using a 60/40 Verm and Coco Coir casing layer...you can tell if the casing is moist enough.

Your welcome...I hope you can still have a nice flush!

I started an " Allen strain on straw " grow log check it out...Click here!
