uh, did i defeat the green?
    #1222004 - 01/15/03 07:12 PM (18 years, 1 month ago)

i've been getting alot of green lately. so when i get it what i do is i take the contamed casing out of the fruiting chamber and leave it closed lying around my room (my room is very cold)

lately just for giggles i opened up some old containers i had lying around to see if they would be compeltely green, and lo and behold, not only had the green not spread since i initially took them out, but the green had turned back to its white stage.

so i have two questions, the first is assuming i continue trying to fruit those mushrooms, will the green just grow back, and if it doesn't grow back, will the mushrooms fruit or is the whole network infected? will the mushies be safe to eat?

i sprayed them down with hydrogen peroxide and such.

I don't know, some green is white before turning green. What is the texture of the white portion ?

the parts that were green turned back into the white green mold, the parts that had not yet been contamintated do not have that green mold look to them (i've studied them extensively) they're just growing mycilium normally

When it goes from white to green (for trich) the white is the mycelium and the green are spores.  I have never seen green go back to white.   Regardless, I would toss it... you know that you had something that wasn't what you wanted with no real idea of what it was.  Many times the green likes to hide out in the center of the substrate.  A nice white cake on the outside will be packed full of green nasty in the center.

keeping a sporulating contaminant around will only cause you more contam.
get rid of substrate, and wash everything that has contams
it sucks to have to throw out a contamed project, but its better than keeping it because it will spread.

if the green is coming from your casing, either sterilize it, or raise the pH
or find a different casing

good luck
