question about rye grain process?
    #1232046 - 01/19/03 06:06 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I have pint jars and I inculated them about 10 days ago, and still no signs of any growth. I used a half cup of organic rye grain berries and about 100 ml of water for each jar, I let it sit over night, then put it in the pressure cook for alittle over a hour. I have those 99.7 percent filters under the lids and a piece of tape over the hole i made in the middle. Is this normal or is there something wrong? Thanks! I have half pint jars making rice cakes and there is already growth in all of those.

10 days is a long time to see no germination.
Probably too wet and they got a Bacterial Contamination.

What strain was it?? Most would have germinated by now.
The 125/105 recipe is if it goes straight into a PC. I don't know about soaking and then PC'ing without adjusting the water content.
Just keep trying.

I just simmer for an hour then PC, the moisture is optimal every time.

Spores on rye always take a long time to germinate for me. Give them another week before you give up hope. I started doing mycelium transfers for this reason.

reiend, although precooking is a good idea, i wouldn't cook untill you start getting bursted kernels. they tend to contam far more easily than unruptured kernels.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
