West Philly is a horrible area unless you live in University City, besides that West Philly is a huge shit hole. Basically no matter where you move in Philly, there's a notoriously bad neighborhood not to far away, and everyone seems to be moving closer to your house. I just moved from the Northeast(Oxford Circle) down to South Philly by 9th and Morris(6 blocks from pats and Genos) and its not to bad so far down there. everyone has a bad attitude, but as long as your friendly and don't argue you should be fine. To put it in lamens terms, no matter where you move, theres always gonna be the hood rats and section 8s just down the street.
My suggestions for moving to Philly if you wont take don't for an answer is South Philly, around the area, fishtown, or if your willing to spend the money, Center City near rittenhouse square.

yeah man.. lot of hate for philly.
i love philadelphia. its a mid-sized city and its got a lot of personality. food is amazing too.
im trying to move to center city also (im currently in south jersey).
it really depends on what youre going to be able to afford for rent. i need only enough space for myself and my small dog. looking for places in Olde City and Rittenhouse Square. places between Girard and a few blocks south of South Street are really nice areas. i generally stick to the east side of the river.. west and north philly can be pretty sketchy in some areas.
if you live and work in center city you really dont need a car. its small enough to walk all of CC in no time. cabs are everywhere if you really need one. i take patco from jersey all the time.
ill be there all day fri sat and sun for the mini film festival going on.

Cool thanks for that info guys, I guess I'm looking in the right areas. Philly is just another city, I'm used to it, I grew up in the area.
Any suggestions on where to look for a job? Any local newspapers or online sites I could check out?

i believe the Inquirer filed for bankruptcy not too long ago. dont know how much they are hiring these days...
most other newspapers are outside CC. most others i know about are in Jersey.. Courier Post, Burlington County Times, etc..
sites online really depend on what youre looking for..

Honestly, I wish I knew where to look. Citizens Bank Park and all the other stadiums have job fairs about a month before the season starts, and they hire people on the spot. Also, there is a lot of place in CC although I'm not too sure about how often they hire. I'm currently looking for a job as well.

Yea i don't understand why philly is getting so much flack here. i move there from new york like 2 months ago and holy shit is it like a dream come true in many ways. NY in my opinion the only thing it has going for it is the variety in ny, there's always 15 billion things going on at once. BUt NY is getting more and more corporate as the years pass and is really losing a lot of what made it unique in my opinion and it's just a cluster fuck hell whole filled with image oriented and self serving people for me the most part. Don't get me wrong i have fun in ny and all but it's not really a humanizing place it's all about the grind either keep up or get out.
Philadelphia is a pretty sweet city other than the filth factor. but despite all that filth it still smells better than NY. the people are more down to earth the bars are way chiller, everythings more affordable. I live in a fucking 2 story 3 bedroom house and pay 280 a month in south east. there's a nice community vibe, community gardens everywhere. LSDANK we live pretty close to each other. I'm like right off tasker and 4th.
AND it's close to NY so if you want to still experiecne ny it's a 10 dollar bus ride away. I don't necessarily think i'd settle her but for now this place is truly a lifesaver for me.
