Possible cobweb? And how to defeat it?
    #1233556 - 01/20/03 10:29 AM (15 years, 3 months ago)

Alright, I believe I have a problem with a friends casing. It looks like the whole damn thing is covered in cobweb, and smells a bit funky. Ill post a pic in the next few hours (not at home, cant access images).

Also, whats a good way to tell the difference between cobweb and actual mycellium. I might be wrong, this just may be fuzzy mycelium on the top, and it looks white to me. Anyway I can tell the difference?

So heres my question on cobwebs, can it be DEFEATED? I heard of certain solutoins, but could someone post a link to one?

(sorry for the delay in images)

Cobweb grows fast as hell and can take over a casing within a day or two. It is a lot more greyer than mycelium and it has a weird kinda smell, but not so distinct. You can defeat it some of the time by spraying it down *lightly* with a H2O/H2O2 solution.

Yes it is. Normally it's used a 1:10 h2o2:h2o ratio to do such a procedure. The solution works as a desinfectant.
BTW, the pics are a bit fuzzy, it could be weak mycelium or cobweb, i can't tell. Growth speed and odor might indicate what it really is.
