Does anyone have any experience with sciplus? and particularly there tryptic soy agar? and there plastic petri dishes?
im wondering if the dishes are autoclavable (pc' able)?
it says to melt the agar then pour into the petris, then im geussing you would have to autoclave them?

you mix agar in a flask and pc that then pour agar into petri dishes in front of a flow hood or in a still air/ glove box

The dishes come pre-sterilized in a plastic sleeve of 20.
You open the sleeve in a glove box and pour agar into all 20. Then tape dishes with electric tape or parafilm and store.
The dishes aren't that durable and often get chipped from bumping or dropping. PC's is possible but they will get cloudy and be harder to see through.
Just toss em when you are done.

Most of them will melt if your PC/autoclave is running properly.

Hi,Tryptic soy agar is not a very good medium for mycology. Its main use is for culturing bacteria that grows in blood. It's very high in casein and soy peptones with a low level of sugars, around .04%. It would be better to stay with MEA or PDA medium for this type of work. Plus reusing plastic Petri dishes just doesn't work. Hipster

I think the agar the OP ordered is the kind that's pre-made/sterilized in a plastic container that is meant to be microwaved/melted and poured.
The average disposable plastic petri plate is not reusable. However, some companies do sell polypropylene plates that can withstand pressure cooking. They tend to cost about double the price of the normal plastic plates. The polypropylene ones still start to crack after 2 or so runs in the pressure cooker.
Polypropylene deli cups are cheaper and work just as good.

It is ALOT cheaper to make your own agar. Each thing like malt extract, dextrose, agar agar etc etc can be purchased from food stores or online. This will save you $$$ and allows you to get a nearly years supply for like 20$ (depending on what agar you want to make).
Plus you arent limited to just one type of agar, you can use the materials to make different combinations of things etc.

Honey, Potato flakes, Agar and water make agar suitable for cubes, pans and even contams!
I can pour 100 dishes for $1-2.

Always make your own media. MEA and PDA are extremely simple and cheap to make.
PDA is the easiest and best IMHO. The dextrose in PDA is just corn sugar. You can find it at brewing supply places and larger supermarkets. You could probably also substitute fructose or karo for the corn sugar.
You can make PDA for as cheap as 25-50 cents a liter. Get your agar from food co-ops, health food stores, or asian markets. Food grade works just fine for media.
