Casing... heres the thing
    #1233443 - 01/20/03 09:31 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

Ok so here is the thing, i have grown some cakes, i've grown a couple casings of straight verm, now everyone who says straight verm casings suck is right, so what i'm wondering is because it will only be my second grow, what is a good casing recipe that doesn't take too much work for sterilization. something kinda like the verm which i just stuck in the microwave for 10 minutes. any suggestions. now what i'm looking for is better flushes than that of what straight verm gave, very sad about the flushes

coco is not readily available for everyone, and not everyone has the ability to order it from the net.

I actually went to a local hydro store today and the guy said that no place in saskatchewan carries it, due to lack of popularity. Whether i believe him or not, thats a different story

But he did have the decency to special order me some, should be here in about 2 weeks. Im anxious to see the coco results, since I have not heard anything but good things about it.

Do a hot water and a microwave trip on it.
AKA coco coir , coco fiber and/or Gro-coir.

"coco is not readily available for everyone, and not everyone has the ability to order it from the net. I actually went to a local hydro store today and the guy said that no place in saskatchewan carries it."
Thats cause you buy it a a pet store as reptile bedding, it's a block called Forest Floor.

"can it be sterilized by the microwave... what is the whole term for "coco"
"Coco Coir".
You can also use Jiffy Mix for a casing layer, its 50/50 Verm/Peat, and a little Lime, great for even pinsets, or you can use 50/50 Verm/Coco Coir (Reptile Bedding), and add a little bit of Oyster Shell (Also available at the pet store).
You can sterilize all casing layers in the microwave no problem, just throw it in for 10 min covered with seran wrap.

Good Luck

almost 700 posts and he still hasn't figured out how to search or read faq's, roadkill has practically written the bible on this casing tek and the terms coco-coir, bed-a-beast, 60/40 even microvave are used every day in this forum. i fail to understand why people continue to spell out answers for people instead of replying with a few choice keywords they can educate themselves with and them come back. maybe i'm too old-school in my netiquette, lazy kids.

ass fuck i know how this place works... i posted this because i want specifics on good pinsets, cos i heard that the 40/60 thing is just good cos you can see how much water it holds by the color... so therefor just wanted to know what flushes good.

That stuff works too. Anything that is spongy and can absorb water easily and readily is good. Oh yeah and it shouldn't have any nutrients, this will get you contams.

Thanks debianlinux,
They need to learn how to do a search is the problem.

Key words are important in doing a search.... "Coco "Coir", "Casings",  "50/50",  "60/40" will bring up alot of useful information.

I'm going to do a 60/40 Coco Coir Tek from start to finnish this week.
I use the micro wave to make mine.
I'll include pictures...with my nifty microwave pan that I use.
