Larger Shrooms Not as Potent?

Most on the shroomery would agree that the relative size of a shroom does not have a bearring on potency (a 3" compared to 11" shroom for example). Only the relative development of the mushroom (overdeveloped broken veil won't be as potent as underdeveloped unbroken veil shroom).
With this being said, 3 of Swim's friends were given 5 grams dried each of the rather large 11", 10" and 13" shroom harvested a few weeks before. They reported a minor trip, yet not nearly even a level 3 trip at that.
These larger shrooms were from the second batch... The first batch which produced numerous smaller shrooms was reported as having strong potency.
What's the deal? Are larger shrooms just LESS potent?

People will continue to argue over whether shrooms need to be picked before or after the veil breaks. Most of the time, mycologists concur that the potency deterioration that everyone talks about simply does not occur as much as people think. Try it out sometime and eat a batch that has released spores from the cap and one that has just broken the veil. An interesting thing about mushrooms is that certain strains contain more psilocin in the cap than in the stem. The p. cubensis strain, as shown in the page below, contains more psilocybin in the cap than the stem. http://www.nansnook.com/archives/3050.html

with experiments i saw that the best time to pick your shrooms is JUST before the veil brakes! maximum potency there

I agree with hamurabi. I harvested my shrooms quite early and they are all small. A gram of them blast me into a high Lv. 2 trip! I have yet to compare with large premature shrooms...
