Dunking questions

I have read that dunking between flushes can improve fruiting. I have read one tek that says you just keep the cake submerged in cold water for 24hrs, drain it and return the cake to the fruiting chamber. Is that really all there is to it, or do some of you have other advice?
I have a growkit that never gave a third flush ,so I dunked it and I'm waiting to see if anything will fruit. How long should it take to see any effects after dunking?

i just dunked some cakes and they pinned within 3 days of dunking.
and all i did was put them in a bowl of highland spring in the fridge covered with cling film for 6 hours.Then put them back in the friuting chamber.

I didn't put mine in the fridge, although the water was cold. Do you think this will be ok?

Yeah should be as cold dunking is only really a way to trigger pinning.But that said this is a tropical species so in the wild it is very unlikely to reach the same temp as your firdge.The water temp its self should be enought to start it into fruiting again.

i thought i had the advantage of rehydrating the cake not just initiating pinning.

when i dunk cakes/casings, i always add some 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to the water just to be on the safe side. i keep the H202 to water ratio around 1:10 or so.. i have not had a single contamination using this method.

Well yeah dunking is to rehydrate.We were talking about the fridge part and weather its really needed for pin formation.
