I'm still not so sure guys. I mean, I hate to argue with the TI's but I just can't find any pics of the Marasmius oreades that look close enough to convince me... And I agree, perhaps "waxy" isn't scientific. I still described a good deal of details in the OP. Regardless, I'm sad to say that I walked past the patch today and the mushrooms were long gone . It's a very public park and these had clearly been a fresh fruiting when I came across them. So perhaps the pictures don't do complete justice, but all I have to go by now is memory, which I remember well. I picked this sucker and walked all the way home with it... I can say is that it wasn't white, as most of the M. oreades appeared, nor was there any variation in color. The true color was consistent throughout the whole patch, and I'd pin it to be about this tone:

I made it in photoshop... And the closest picture I found to match what I saw was this, from mushroomexpert:

Which that is pictured next to Hygrocybe flavescens. Beyond that I don't know what else to say, aside from that the patch was rather uniform and none resembled, from what I can find, any patch of M. oreades... I imagine this is moot at this point and I will learn from my rushed pictures. I was basically getting ready for work at the time.. blah, blah... thanks for the input though guys, really appreciated.

Here is a patch I found of M. oreades which resemble the mushrooms you posted, at least to me. The biggest difference is the striated cap, as far as I can tell. They are not always white, they can be fleshy colored as well.

I am still not sure of what they are, I just don't think they look like Hygrocybe to me. I also am fairly new to all of this, and have not collected either genus many times.
Oh and feel free to argue with the TI's, as long as you do it respectfully of course. I felt the same way as you at first and they told me to argue back. They are not always right, just usually.
