i never understood the appeal of big outdoor festivals.
going to see a band in the basement of a church.. 100 people in the audience.. thats my fav.
you cant say youve seen a band if youre a solid mile away from the stage.

I've been to lots of concerts with less than 1,000 people, I'd much rather see a band with 10,000 people outdoors at a festie. Its impossible to explain what its like without going there, its like a religious experience to heads.

meh.. ive been to warped, ozzfest, lollapalooza.. it was always too crowded, too hot, couldnt see the bands..
the people that you hang around with in the grass are always cool but thats not enough to get me to go back.
id rather see a band i really like for $12 than pay $200 for 50 bands that are sorta ok at best.
meh.. different strokes..

Going to a small outdoor festival beats any show I've ever been to, hands down.

Small festies are way better if they are in the right spot.
You can't say you've seen your favorite band, until you've seen their epic light show from the back of the crowd, while you dance off into infinity.
And if you wanna get to the front..........just walk up there.
There's a lot of bigger festivals that you can see the stage perfectly fine. Ozzfest, lolla, and whatever else you mentioned suck.

I like smaller fests more in some ways than bigger fests, better scene, you actually get to know more people because you see the same people, and usually no security. Bigger festies usually have better music though depending on your tastes, that's really only reason why I go to bigger fests at all, nothing beats seeing your favorite band with 10,000 other fans all dancing their asses off.

I really want to go, but I'd be going alone. There is nothing appealing there for any of my friends and definitely not my girlfriend.

Well most of my friends are into Metal. My girlfriend is into reggae and Indie. They all listen to stuff like the Beatles and Floyd, but even though they trip they aren't as into psychedelic music. I don't even know if I'd enjoy myself here though. Its very dancey and I'd really be going for Thievery Corporation, Emancipator and Gift of Gab. I'd much rather go to Bonaroo, but it'd cost me a fortune.
I don't understand why a lot of these festivals are centered around electronic music. I just find it so unpsychedelic.

I've eaten a lot of acid and seen a lot of music while tripping, electronic music is definitely just as psychedelic as any other type of music. Most festies have more of a balance, but bisco is mostly EDM. Soja is reggae, but they aren't all that good imo.

I'll be there this year. Went last year and it poured the first two nights, still had a blast though.
The stages are usually not too crowded unless its the biscuits playing or the late night tent.

i'm honestly really excited about getting the chance to see thievery corporation this summer without having to go to bonnaroo as well. i see the biscuits all the time and i know that they are notorious for getting too fucked up and playing lackluster sets @ camp. tcorp, however, is just one of those bands that don't come around very often and they never disappoint.

This will be my 1st time @ camp! Which shows are you guys excited about? I love tDB but honestly I'm more excited to see Ween and Thievery Corporation than the biscuits. I haven't seen Tcorp since the Echo Project in 2007 and I haven't seen Ween live EVER so I'm pretty stoked. Especially in light of the fact that the biscuits are known for playing lackluster sets @ camp.

Like I said, this will be my 1st year @ Camp. Do any of you seasoned vets have any advice regarding camping for a 1st timer? I heard it was muddy as a some-bitch last year.

I never have tarps or waterproofing cause I just sleep in my car if it gets too wet. Make sure to bring an ez up, babywipes, dry clothes, pants, a jacket or sweater, a poncho, sunblock if you need it, extra chairs for people you meet (people want to sit down and hang out, if you only have chairs for people there its less inviting), easy food to eat like cold fried chicken, slim fast to drink when you are tripping/rolling and need calories, and bring a marker if you can. A big flag with an odd colored banner is a great idea to help you find your camping site. Its sometimes easy to get lost when you are spun out at a festie.

So I've never been to a festival quite like this before, tryin' to get a bead on what to expect. What is your favorite memory or story from Camp Bisco last year?

It's pretty wooked out from what I hear, so just make sure none of your stuff is left laying around and you should have a fun time. I've heard some hilarious stories from kids that went to Camp. I've also heard some stories that made me go . That being said, you will probably have a good time, regardless.
