Our DC Anti-War Protest Adventure (pics!!)

Well, Learyfan came to vist me and Shroomism this weekend. Today, (Sunday) we headed downtown to the Anti-War Protest! On Saturday night we made our signs..mine said "Give peace a chance" and "Arms are for hugging" Shroomism?s said "make love not war" and "there has never been a good war or a bad peace" and Learyfan?s said "Drop acid not bombs". We got to the rally at about 11:30 AM at the Department of "in"-justice. There were some speakers, some chanting and some poetry, than the march started. I?d estimate about 1000 people were involved in the march (although don?t take my word because I?m pretty bad at number estimations) We marched about a mile chanting in unison...it was great! And than we got to H st. That is when the organizers informed us that the police said they would not honor the permit and we would not be permitted to march down H to Lafeyette Park as planned. Well nobody was taking that shit so a chant rang out "Who?s streets?...Our Streets!" "Who?s streets...Our Streets!" I must admit I started to wuss out...I was afraid of brutality as the cops far outnumbered the protestors. But to my surprise, Shroomism (who is usually pretty quiet) was full of energy and resistance and convinced me to continue with them. Well despite the police, the march continued down H St. The cops didn?t do anything although more began to show up. Once we arrived at Lafeyette Park (directly across from the white house) we were met by a blockade of police in riot gear and on horses. They refused to allow anyone into the park. The protest did carry on at H st. for about 30 minutes and then another march began. This time it was around the block in an attempt to get closer to the white house. Unfortunately, we only found more blockades and the organizers didn?t press the issue...instead, another round of speakers and chanting....along with drum beats and dancing and even a congo line took place. At about 3 PM, the organizers dismissed the crowd inviting everyone to participate ina week of Anti-war resistance Feb. 13-21. At that point we headed towards the metro and went home. On the news later this evening, I learned that several people continued to protest and eventually stormed the blockade into Lafeyette park. Apparently at least a dozen people were arrested and charged with misdemeanors. Kinda funny considering that there was a PERMIT allowing protest in the park. Fucking cops! But overall, I think it was a pretty good demonstration...peaceful but assertive at the same time! So anyway, enough words...PICTURES!!!!
First, Learyfan would like to offer you a bud!
A collage of some of the protest signs
Shroomism marches looking pissed off (hes? thinking about what a fuck-wad Bush is)
Thats me...I know I look unhappy but I was just COLD!!!! Shroomism and Learyfan chilling at the final rally
Learyfan and a really weird gasoline guy (I would have got more pics of this guy but I think he was about to kill me for even taking this one!)
Thats my upload limit...perhaps I?ll post a few more tomorrow. -Peace

I think total count for the protest on Sunday was around 5,000.. On Saturday they estimate the crowd at 210,000... That's a lot of hippies. Said the protests in DC this weekend were the biggest since the vietnam era...

The funniest sign that we didn't get a picture of, said "Bombing Iraq is SO ten years ago". The other really funny sign is in that sign collage. It said "Bush uses his flag as a cum rag!!!".

I'm in Vancouver right now visiting my brother and on Saturday I went downtown and stumbled across the anti-war protest so I went walking around with everyone. It was pretty fun there was a punk band ripping it up and quite a few blocks worth of people. I noticed the crowd's average age could have been close to 40, which was pretty interesting. Funny how everybody gets out their cameras when protests are on.. At any given time there were at least 3 people with cameras within 15 feet of me. You know what would be a cool teapot? A little gasoline jerry can shaped thing. THAT would be cool.
