Possible Aleuria aurantia newbie ID request

Habitat: Found near a deciduous root system on lightly landscaped property within a half kilometer south of Lake Erie in PA.
Gills: Stem: Cap: Looks like a large cup mushroom to me (using my Falcon guide). Color in the photo is accurately reproduced, rusty orange.
Spore print color: All I took was the pic.
Bruising: No bruising noticed.
Other information: When I broke a piece off, I noticed inner part was much paler than the exterior, almost white to translucent rusty orange. It was quite fragile, I hardly touched it and it came off in my fingers. The smell and taste were very mild and typically mushroomy.
Edit: Oh yeah, the larger one in the foreground is roughly 3.5 inches across at its longest.

Does it have any type of stem under that?
If so maybe Gyromitra, if not maybe Peziza.

I am sorry that I cannot tell you what it is, but it is definitely not Aleuria aurantia. A. aurantia starts out cup shaped and then changes shape a bit, but it never turns into that sort of brainlike structure.

Looking at Gyromitra it appears to me like a better fit. Could much of the stem be subterranean?

Yeah, looks to me like Gyromitra is a better fit, I imagine the stem just wasn't visible without plucking the fruit. I tried to leave it alone, since that was the only fungus I found in the area.
