What's so wrong with a 5-day waiting period?
    #1231195 - 01/19/03 01:58 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Is it really too long to wait to shoot someone?

Picture a woman who is being stalked by an ex-boyfriend with violent tendencies. In five days, she may be dead.

Or she can just call the police. That's what they're there for, ya know.

And stay in police custody for five days, while waiting for a gun that she could just as easily have had today? And let me ask you - what purpose would a five day waiting period serve anyway?

Background check to make sure the person's not the psycho stalker ex-boyfriend that woman's trying to avoid.

The Second Amendment. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand?

Ok, then. I'll now agree that a 5-day waiting period is excessive.

New Topic: What about those proposals limiting people to one gun per month that never get passed? Why do you need to buy more than one gun a month?

Waiting 5 days doesn't infringe on your right to own a gun. Just because you're allowed to bear arms doesn't mean there can't be limits on it. I mean, does the Second Ammendment entitle me to own nuclear bombs? I don't think so.

What if you find a few good deals all from the same shop? What if you want to buy 10 guns to give people for christmas? It's infringing on the right to bear arms and it's wrong.

Do you not understand "shall not be infringed". This is a basic human right, like being free of slavery.

What if I see two guns that I really like for real cheap at a store... on clearance?

Limiting a killer to one gun does not limit his ability to kill, considering it only takes one bullet to kill someone. Limiting a killer's access to life outside of jail, now there's a novel idea.

We're not talking about guns here. Not fucking shoes. These are deadly weapons, and if you can't think of anything else to give 10 people for Christmas, then I'd be afraid to meet you in a dark alleyway. And plus those 10 people should have to get background checks before they're given a gun. You have the right to bear arms, yes, but having a fucking arsenal is a little excessive, don't you think?

The most guns I've ever bought in a month is 4. Two at a time within 2 weeks. If I had had to wait a month between purchases my collection would not be as nice as it is. And if you don't think there are bargains in the gun biz thn you're mistaken. I'll share with you the general idea, patience and carry cash!

How big is your gun collection? If you buy 4 guns in a month, I hate to think of how small your penis is.

I've given and recieved guns for christmas. It's no big deal. And there's nothing wrong with collecting firearms. I know guys that have 15 different 1911 .45 pistols they collect and shoot all the time. It's an enourmously expensive hobby. Personaly I don't have the money for it but if I did I'de definatly be a collector as well as a shooter.

My collection is rather small. I've bought and sold quite a few instead of buy and hold. I won't give a number on the amount I have but right now I'm definatly missing a few that I want/need. 4 in a month was the most I ever bought, in 2002 I got 3 total, each months apart. But if I'de have found some steals I'de have bought them right up.

Alright. I'll drop the whole gun-a-month thing(even tho it seems a bit excessive to me) if you'll answer my question about nuclear arms. If the right to keep and bear arms means I can't be stopped from owning any weapon in any quantity I desire, does that mean I should legally be allowed to own nuclear weapons?
